Moments ago I shared that Lollipop is rolling out for the LG G3 on AT&T. Following suit today is an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Moto X (2nd Gen, 2014) on US Cellular. The update is reportedly going out now in a staged roll out fashion and not everyone will have it appearing […]

Xposed Framework for Android 5.0 Lollipop coming “soon”

OnePlus-One-Android Xposed framework-bootmanager-3-2

The popular Xposed Framework, which allows for a wide range of customization tweaks to Android, sadly is not yet working with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Developer, rovo89 had previously commented about issues with development time and adapting the software to various new Lollipop features, but it looks like a release may finally be nearing.

Commenting briefly on the XDA Forum, rovo89 indicates that Xposed for Lollipop could be ready “soon” and that it is already “working very well”. Previously, it was not even clear if bringing all of the features over to Lollipop would be possible, but fortunately it seems that development has come along well and is working on his own Nexus 5, as shown in the screen-shot below.

Previously, compatibility issues with the ART run time, SE Linux security and a lack of time to commit to the project had been holding back a Lollipop version of the software.

Xposed Lollipop working

We still don’t have a date set for release, but this is a much more upbeat outlook for Xposed fans than there appeared to be towards the end of last year. Hopefully it won’t be too long until Lollipop users can resume tinkering with Xposed Framework.

T-Mobile Lollipop OTA for HTC One M8 landing on Feb. 9

one-m8-6

We are officially in full swing for OTA updates of Android 5.x Lollipop for a number of flagship devices. Last week was post after post of Samsung’s Galaxy S5 receiving the update, and now we get to inform you that the T-Mobile branded HTC One (M8) will start receiving the update this coming Monday, February 9th.

The news comes via a quick tweet from Mo, who says that T-Mobile has received the required Technical Approval for the update. While this does not offer a specific game plan or roll out schedule, the exact words “OTA to start on Monday” are still magic to the ears of those HTC One (M8) owners that have been holding their breath waiting for their shot at Lollipop.

As with the other carriers and unlocked editions, your HTC One (M8) will run Sense 6 along with the Material Design goodness of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The update has taken a little longer than HTC’s promised 90 days from official Lollipop release to reach handsets. Now that it is arriving, you’ll at least have a few weeks to play with it before you get to decide if you’ll keep it, or upgrade hardware to the anticipated new HTC One (M9).

What aspect of Android Lollipop are you most looking forward to on your T-Mobile HTC One (M8)?

HTC One M8’s on Sprint getting Android 5.0 Lollipop updates

While HTC said they would miss the 90 day goal for their devices to be updated to Lollipop, they certainly came closer than some have in timely updates in the past. The US is a harder monster to wrangle than most locales since each carrier has to move the update through their own quality checks […]

HTC One M7 Unlocked and Developer Editions receiving Lollipop update

htc-one-flat-left

We’ve already seen the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop roll out to Sprint and Google Play Edition variants of the HTC One M7, but if you’re the lucky owner of an Unlocked or Developer Edition M7, you should be getting the update as we speak. HTC’s Mo Versi took to Twitter to announce that the two variants would see the update today.

Less than a week ago, HTC announced that they wouldn’t hit their promised 90-day goal to bring Lollipop to carrier variants of the M8 and M7. This disappointed quite a few users, though HTC did have a valid reason for the delay. We don’t have any information as to when other carrier variants will see the update, but we’d imagine it should roll out sometime soon.

The HTC One M7 is almost two years old, though many would still consider it a great Android device. If you’d like to pick one up for yourself, you can grab one off-contract for as low as $149.99.

Much to everyone’s surprise, Lollipop hasn’t actually rolled out on too many devices quite yet. In the latest Android distribution numbers, Lollipop is only on 1.6% of Android devices so far. So, if you’re the lucky owner of an Unlocked or Dev. Edition M7, consider yourself lucky!

Leaked Sprint doc reveals One M8 and G3 Lollipop updates coming soon

LG G3 Vs HTC One M8-89

When it comes to market penetration, Lollipop still has a long ways to go before it reaches a meaningful number of Android users. After all, the update is currently sitting on just 1.6% of Android devices. Thankfully, OEMs seem to be much more aggressive with Lollipop than previous Android updates, and this week alone we’ve seen Lollipop rollout to the Verizon Galaxy S5, the Sprint HTC One M7 and the Sprint Galaxy S5. Now it seems that Sprint is rolling out at least two more Lollipop updates this month, at least if a leaked release schedule proves correct.

The leaked schedule comes from Android Central, and indicates that the One M8 and the M8 Harman Kardon Special Edition will see the update on February 13th, with the LG G3 following on the 16th. It goes without saying that the dates listed are tentative and could certainly be subject to change, but the bigger takeway is that most major OEMs are holding true to their promises to bring Android 5.0 Lollipop to their flagship devices in the earlier part of 2015.

What do you think of the way the Lollipop update has been handled by carriers? What do you think of Lollipop in general? Let us know in the comments.

Sony Mobile has been remarkably quiet regarding updating its devices to the latest version of Android, but thanks to the database at Vodafone Australia, it seems likely that Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 is going to start testing this month, presumably to become available not long after, probably in March. This […]

Website splash shows Indonesia could be getting Android 5.1 on Android One devices soon

Android 5.0 Lollipop is somewhat of an elusive beast at the moment, with only a handful of devices benefiting from it’s improvements, and fewer still have been updated past the original Android 5.0 release to Android 5.0.1 or Android 5.0.2. Which made it all the more interesting to see that on Google‘s own Android One […]
