HTC: “We’ll miss our self-imposed Android 4.4 target”
HTC president (U.S.) Jason Mackenzie has penned a post on the company’s website advising that the hardware maker will miss its self-imposed target for Android 4.4 KitKat. Initially expected to arrive for the HTC One this week, it appears that the process could take another week or two before it hits the U.S. versions of the handset. As you likely guessed, the delay comes from the carrier certification aspect.
The challenge we gave our teams, in cooperation with our carrier partners, has taught us a lot that will allow us to improve on our upgrade delivery in the future. We remain resolved to provide timely updates and to be transparent about the process and status of our efforts. Supporting our customers is a major priority for us and we thank you for your support of HTC!
We have to give HTC credit for both imposing its own deadline as well as the transparency. There’s nothing worse than waiting without any clue as to what we should expect.

Motorola announces multitude of updates, including “KitKat sweetness” for Canada and Australia
Motorola took to its blog yesterday to announce that despite the chilly weather, it’s not preventing its engineers from churning out software updates.
Among the updates are a new “Motorola Gallery”, offering an enhanced UI with faster navigation, a streamlined album drawer and bigger/boulder thumbnails, and an update to “Motorola Migrate,” making it easier to migrate from from an iPhone with the ability to transfer iCloud contacts and calendar events right from the app and not just in the MotoMaker web tool.
The latest version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat is also coming to more devices. Moto started releasing KitKat to the Boost Mobile Moto G in the U.S. and Australia and to the Moto X on Rogers and Fido in Canada.
All this being said, the new Google-owned Moto is definitely keeping its word in delivering timely software updates worldwide.
Please note that while “Motorola Migrate” can be used on any Android smartphone to migrate to a new Moto smartphone, “Motorola Gallery” can only be installed on supported devices, the Moto G and X, and Verizon’s Droid Ultra, Mini and Maxx.

Android 4.4.2 Rolling Out to HTC One Users in Europe
HTC One users, it is time to start getting a little excited. Last week we learned that Android 4.4 was ready for US HTC One users, it was just matter of certification before it started being rolled out from our carriers. The OTA update has been spotted in Europe already, and for a moment there, XDA had the update in their grasp for you impatient folks out there. Sadly, that page has gone missing, but if it happens to return I will update this post.
The build version for the update is 4.19.401.8, and it is a hefty 308.24 mb in size. It is only a matter of time before we start receiving word that one of our carriers starts rolling out the Android 4.4.2 update to the HTC One, so keep a lookout for it.

HTC One will get KitKat certification in the US next week

Eighty-four days. That’s how long it’s been since HTC announced its intent to bring Android 4.4 KitKat to all North American versions of the One within 90 days. With just six days left to go on the countdown, HTC just tweeted on its US account that the final software has finally entered the hallowed carrier labs for testing and will be certified (and, we hope, rolled out) sometime next week. Of course, the process is now essentially under the control of individual mobile operators, so let’s hope that they don’t make liars out of HTC — we’ve had Wednesday circled on our Sense calendars for quite some time now.

Android 4.4 KitKat Ready for the US HTC One
HTC One users. Get ready to break yourself a piece of that KitKat bar. Android 4.4 is about ready to be sent out to all HTC One users, on all US carriers. According to HTC’s Twitter page, the Android 4.4 update is ready, but awaiting certification. It shouldn’t take too long to get that certification, so expect the update to start rolling out in the next couple weeks as promised by HTC.

Android 4.4.2 for HTC One arrives in the hands of French carrier SFR, rolls out in February
HTC One owners have been patiently waiting for their update to Android KitKat for some time now, buoyed by the release of Android 4.4.2 for the Google Play edition of their device, but to no avail as the airwaves went silent over the Holiday Season. Thankfully, the airwaves are starting up again as French carrier, SFR, has gone on record saying that Android 4.4.2 for HTC One has arrived in their hands, but won’t be rolling out till the first half of February.
This is mostly in line, give or take a week, with the promise that HTC made when Android 4.4 KitKat was first announced which was that the HTC One would receive Android 4.4 within 90 days of the announcement. Obviously, this won’t be completely successful unless the roll-out is completed on a global scale but it looks like it will be a colossal effort if HTC is going to roll out the update within the 90 days, though perhaps we should be giving HTC a break seeing as it’s gone through so much the last few months.
Despite their financial toils, do you have more faith in HTC now that they have delivered Android 4.4.2 for HTC One as they promised? Let us know what you think.

Android 4.4 for LG Optimus G and Optimus G Pro spotted in Testing
After HTC announced that its HTC One X and One X+ would not be moving past Android 4.2.2, many phone owners could be forgiven for thinking that their manufacturer would also be leaving them high and dry without a software update past Jelly Bean. Not so for some LG owners as Android 4.4 for LG Optimus G and LG Optimus G Pro has been spotted in the wild being tested.
The User Agent profiles, first seen on Phone Arena, appear to list quite a few models of both the LG Optimus G and LG Optimus G Pro suggesting that Android 4.4 is being tested for these devices. This is great news for Optimus G owners in particular as many of them have been wondering what’s been taking so long seeing as it is basically the same device as the Nexus 4. All the same, it’s great to know that LG is still support at least some of its devices, even if Android 4.4 for its flagship LG G2 is still no where to be seen. No word on when the update will become available, but we’ll let you know when we do.
Any owners of an Optimus G or Optimus G Pro excited to hear that Android 4.4 exists for your device and is being tested right now? Let us know how you feel in the comments.
