Unlocked Amazon Fire phone now $189 dollars

Amazon Fire phone

You all know the sad story of the Amazon Fire phone, we all had high hopes but were sadly let down especially when Amazon tried to charge full flagship prices for its phones.  We’ve seen the price move up and down over the past couple of months, and today the price has dropped to its lowest ever at $189.00 dollars.  1-year of Amazon Prime is still included with the price of the phone which carries a $99 dollar value and means the price for this unlocked phone is really on $90 dollars if you already subscribe to Amazon Prime, and that is for 32GB of on-board storage as well.

Sure the Fire phone has turned out to be a blunder, but if you’re in need of a cheap phone this deal is hard to pass up.  Check the deal out at Amazon.com.

Amazon Offers Treasure Trove of Free Apps and Games for 2015

Amazon_Free_Apps_New_Year

Over Christmas Amazon offered a large swathe of free games and apps, with a value north of $220. Though Christmas is behind us, Amazon has put up a newer, smaller offering of free games and apps to ring in 2015.

There are a total of 33 apps and games in the bundle, though the ratio leans decidedly more toward games. The free games include:

  • Monopoly
  • Stack the States
  • Angry Birds Star Wars
  • Fruit Ninja
  • Riptide GP2
  • Kingdom Rush Frontiers
  • Table Top Racing
  • Sparkle 2 Evo
  • Lyne
  • Clockwork Tales: Of Glass and Ink
  • République
  • Thomas Was Alone
  • Alice Trapped in Wonderland
  • Townsmen Premium
  • Might and Magic Clash of Heroes
  • Patchworkz
  • Garfield’s Escape
  • Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past
  • Buttons and Scissors Pro
  • Azkend: The World Beneath

Free apps include:

  • Alarm Clock Xtreme
  • Pho.to Lab PRO
  • AVG AntiVirus Pro
  • Calculator Plus
  • Food Diary and Calorie Tracker PRO.
  • JETFIT Pro
  • Bills Reminder
  • Mini Piano
  • Deep Sleep with Andrew Johnson
  • Orrery
  • BuildCalc
  • Xtralogic Remote Desktop Client
  • Distant Suns: Unleash your inner astronaut

The great thing here is these aren’t just throwaway freebies that don’t count for much. There is real value in many of these games and apps. So if you’re a Kindle user, give it a look. If you’re a Fire Phone user, you’re the only one of your kind and must allow yourself to be studied by science. Also, the apps will be equally great for you.

amazon-smartphone-kindle-fire-phone-render

Amazon made their debut in the smartphone market by introducing the Amazon Fire Phone. It is an Android powered smartphone featuring Amazon’s very own Fire OS. Although, it is Android but a user can only use the Amazon App store with the Fire Phone, which means no access to Google Play Store but thanks to someone over at XDA, Fire Phone users can now access the Google Play Store. The best part is that there is no requirement of rooting the phone, however it is not something official so be ready to take the risk.

If you are interested in using Google Play Store on your Fire Phone, check out the video below:

amazon-freetime-disney-dora-2014-12-19-01

December 18th marked a great day at Amazon for content delivered specifically to children. FreeTime is a service designed specifically with children in mind. With subscription pricing starting at $2.99, thousands of new titles from Disney, Nickelodeon, Sesame Street, and Dr. Suess (among others) have been made available by the Seattle based e-commerce giant. Amazon is touting this service as being “built for kids” with kid friendly searching and parental controls taking the front seat. For example, services like social media, in-app purchases, and the general internet are not available while in FreeTime. Amazon’s entire focus with this service is put learning content and parental controls first.

The addition of brand titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Frozen, and the Cat in the Hat is designed to drive more traffic to their Amazon Fire suite of products. FreeTime is exclusively available on Fire Tablets, Fire TV, and Kindle eReaders.

Nielsen will finally start tracking Netflix and Amazon video

Nielsen, the holy vanguard of television ratings, has finally figured out how to track viewership from Netflix and Amazon’s streaming video services. And when it launches next month, it could fundamentally change the sorts of shows you see from them. Since neither Netflix or Amazon offer detailed viewership data, Nielsen has developed a way for its rating meters to track shows by identifying their audio, the Wall Street Journal reports. While it won’t track mobile viewers, it will help level the playing field for content owners when negotiating streaming deals, who have so far been clueless about how their shows are performing on Netflix and Amazon. That might lead to some of your favorite shows disappearing, but it could mean streaming data will help decide wether that show you’ve been binge watching gets cancelled.

This isn’t the first time Nielsen has tried to make sense of newfangled viewing habits, though. Last year, the company updated its tracking platform to measure video streams from the web, mobile devices, and other modern viewing sources like DVRs. And it also tapped into Facebook and Twitter for broader viewing trends. The difference this time? Nielsen will be able to track how shows perform on specific streaming services. That could lead to some surprises, like a show that explodes on Netflix after floundering inexplicably on TV. And maybe, just maybe, it will prove once and for all that nobody is using Amazon’s instant video.

Amazon’s Fire TV Stick is shipping (but only if you’ve already ordered)

Amazon Fire TV Stick

Did you plunk down $39 for Amazon’s Fire TV Stick as soon as you heard about its promise of low-cost, full-featured streaming? If so, we have good news: as promised, Amazon has started shipping its Chromecast rival to people who ordered early. Unfortunately, those are the only people who can expect to get a Fire TV Stick in the near future… or any time this year, for that matter. Amazon is telling new customers that their orders won’t ship until at least January 15th, 2015, or well after everyone has unwrapped their holiday presents. Unless your gift recipients are cool with IOUs, you’ll have to snag a Chromecast, a Roku Streaming Stick or another “close enough” alternative.
