Amazon will make a ‘The Man in the High Castle’ series

Philip K. Dick’s imagination has been juicing TV series and movies since the early ’60s, most famously inspiring Blade Runner, Total Recall and Minority Report. It should come as little surprise, therefore, to see that Amazon’s pilot for Dick’s The Man in the High Castle was the company’s most watched pilot ever. As a consequence, the company will now commission a full series for its Netflix-esque Prime Instant Video. Of course, we just have to hope that the show is a little better than the last time someone adapted the author’s work for TV — 1999’s deeply forgettable Total Recall 2070.

It may be the most notable entry on the list, but it’s not just …High Castle that Amazon executives have waved a green-tinted torch towards. Other successful shows include an adaptation of British drama Mad Dogs and documentary strand The New Yorker Presents. In the children’s department, the company gave its blessing for full series of Just Add Magic as well as The Stinky & Dirty Show. Like the second series of Transparent, you can expect these new shows to start popping up towards the tail end of the year. So set your binge-watching schedule accordingly, folks.

Amazon’s one-hour delivery is now available in all of Manhattan

Amazon Prime Now

Live or work in Manhattan? You now have an all-too-tempting way to impulse shop online. Amazon has confirmed to Mashable that its Prime Now delivery service is now available across the whole of the New York City borough, rather than the tiny area of before. If you just have to get some soap right after a sweaty Central Park run and don’t want to visit a store, you can. It’ll still cost $8 for the one-hour option (it’s free for two) on top of your Prime subscription, of course. The big question is whether or not Amazon can expand Prime Now beyond Manhattan in a timely fashion — that super-fast shipping depends on having a distribution center close by, which isn’t as likely in less densely populated areas.

Today Only: Oppo Find 7 32GB price cut to £310 in the UK

oppo find 7 review aa (8 of 20)

Amazon is currently selling the Oppo Find 7, a rather good QHD display smartphone, for only £310 in the UK until the end of the day, complete with free delivery.

The Find 7 originally went on sale in Europe back on December 17th. The 16GB variant initially cost £319, while 32GB of storage brought the price up to £379. The current offer works out to a £69 or 18 percent saving.

For your £310, the Oppo Find 7 comes with a 5.5 inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 resolution), a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM, 13 megapixel rear camera, 5MP front camera, 4G LTE connectivity, a microSD card slot, 3000 mAh battery, and Oppo’s customised Android based ColorOS.

The 32GB LG G3, probably the Oppo Find 7’s closest competitor in terms of specifications, typically costs around the £350 in the UK, making the Find 7 a rather good deal right now.

Amazon’s offer applies to both black and white colour options and can be combined with one day delivery if you want your Find 7 fast.

Samsung overtakes Apple, jumps to number 3 in Reputation Quotient in Harris Poll

harris_poll_rq_top_ten

The Harris Poll has released the results of their annual poll of corporate reputation and Samsung has moved all the way up to number 3 in the rankings, surpassing Apple along the way for the first time. Samsung moved from seventh in the prior year while Apple fell from third down to ninth. Some other notable tech companies also made the top ten including Amazon at number two and Google slid in to the tenth place.

Amazon continues to be one of the strongest performers year after year on the strength of their breadth of products, customer focus and public trust, although they did get supplanted at the top by Wegmans Food Markets. Meanwhile, both Microsoft and Sony slipped out of the top ten even as Google managed to slide in to grab the final top ten spot.

On the longer list, Sprint Corporation found itself as one of the biggest gainers from 2014 to 2015, gaining 5.3 points to land in the 72nd spot on the list of the top 100. Competitor Verizon found itself in the 66th spot and the leader amongst telecom companies.

The poll asks respondents to rate companies on 20 different attributes that are grouped into six dimensions of corporate reputation:

  • Social responsibility
  • Emotional appeal
  • Products and services
  • Workplace environment
  • Financial performance
  • Vision and leadership

The Reputation Quotient, or RQ, is the sum of the ratings on the 20 attributes divided by the total number of attributes answered multiplied by seven. That result is then multiplied by 100 to give a final RQ score with the maximum being 100. Wegmens Food Markets top score was 84.36.

Deal: Buy a Nvidia Shield Tablet (16 or 32GB) from Amazon and receive a $30 gift card

Nvidia Shield Tablet deal

The NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet was one of our favorite Android tablets of last year. It’s a great gaming device with a stellar screen, loud front-facing speakers, and has plenty of official accessories to choose from. One of the only drawbacks to the tablet is the price point, which starts at $299 for the 16GB Wifi-only model and runs up to $399 for the 32GB Wifi/LTE variant. However, if you’re in the market for a new Android tablet, you may want to head over to Amazon today. If you buy either the 16GB or 32GB NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet, you’ll score a $30 Amazon gift card with your purchase. If you choose to go with the 32GB variant, Amazon will even throw in a copy of Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One and Portal with your purchase. Unfortunately, the games aren’t included with the 16GB version.

If you need a refresher, the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet has an 8-inch 1920 x 1200 IPS LCD display, a 2.2GHz Tegra K1 processor, 192-core GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of on-board storage, a 19.75Wh battery and MicroSD expansion up to 128GB. If you’re interested in learning more about the tablet before you make the big purchase, check out our full review.

So what are you going to do with your $30 gift card? We’d recommend trying out the NVIDIA SHIELD Controller. It might be a little pricey, but it really makes gaming on the device so much better. If you’re interested in this deal, head to the links below to purchase a tablet for yourself.

Deal: Amazon’s Fire TV only $34 with 3-month subscription to Sling TV or $84 without

Best-Media-Streamers-AA-17

Sling TV just launched a few days ago, and it’s gotten many consumers to second guess their traditional cable network. When it launched, Amazon and Sling TV partnered up to offer some great deals on the Fire TV set-top box and Fire TV Stick. That deal is still going on, but if you haven’t taken advantage of it yet, now may be a good time to do so.

Amazon is currently offering the Fire TV set-top box for $84, which is a $15 discount from its normal price. That’s already a pretty good deal, but it gets better. If you’re looking to try Sling TV, pre-paying for a three-month subscription ($60 in all) will get you a $50 discount code for the Fire TV. So, with the two deals combined, the Fire TV can be yours for $34 with a three-month subscription to the streaming service. In all, you’ll pay $94 for the set-top box and Sling TV subscription. Considering that the Fire TV is normally $99, this is a pretty decent deal if you’re considering signing up for Sling TV already.

So, how do you get the discount code? First, head to the Sling TV website and prepay for your three-month subscription to the service. You’ll then receive a coupon code that can be used for either $50 off the Fire TV set-top box or to get a free Fire TV Stick. Copy the discount code, and head to Amazon and add either the Fire TV box or Stick to your cart. Enter the discount code before you check out, and your price should drop to the aforementioned promotional price. If you have any trouble along the way, let us know in the comments and we’ll help you sort it out.

Once you sign up for your subscription, head to the Amazon links below to grab the Fire TV set-top box or Fire TV Stick.
