Amazon’s Fire TV Stick drops to £25 in the UK
If you’re looking to buy a cheap streaming dongle, now might be a good time to reconsider Amazon’s Fire TV Stick. Today, the company dropped the price of its Chromecast and Roku Streaming Stick competitor to £25 in the UK, which is £10 less than before. As we noted in our original review, there’s a lot to like about Amazon’s HDMI dongle. Unlike Google’s Chromecast, it comes with a dedicated remote and a fleshed-out TV interface, which should appeal to homeowners looking for a traditional set-top box experience. It also comes with a 30-day Prime trial, which is just enough time to binge-watch the best movies and TV shows on Prime Instant Video. It’s not clear yet if this is a temporary or permanent price-cut, so if you’re interested, best order now just in case Amazon jacks it up again.

[Deal] Pick up a Kingston microSD card for cheap through Amazon today
If you’ve been looking for a new SD card to pop in your phone, Amazon is running a special on Kingston microSD cards today with some pretty heft discounts. The cards start at $5.49 for the 16 GB option and run all the way up to $70 for the 128 GB version, which might be the cheapest we’ve seen that size card go down to.
At these prices, it might be worth it to pick up a few to expand your phone or tablet’s storage room, or just to keep a few in case you get a new device that needs one.
And while Galaxy S6 owners are probably going to have to pass on this deal, maybe the Active version will end up taking advantage of expandable memory later this year.

Amazon’s riding the New York subway to speed up deliveries

Despite its incredible reach, Amazon has always had to play catch-up with brick and mortar retailers when it comes to getting products in customers’ hands. If you’re in a pinch, you can normally visit a local store and walk out with exactly what you need. Amazon has taken steps to cut waiting times with same-day deliveries in some cities and then one-hour shipments via Prime Now. The only problem with promising such a short delivery period in some of the world’s busiest cities is that traffic can be a nightmare. So to get orders to customers in Manhattan, the Financial Times reports that the company has begun loading small pushcarts with packages and taking them on a more efficient means of transport: the New York subway.
In a statement to the newspaper, Amazon confirmed that delivery personnel now “bike, walk or use public transportation” to make deliveries. In fact, the company admitted that the only time they’ll drive “is if the item is large like a flat screen TV.” It’s not too surprising given that Amazon has toyed with taxi deliveries in the past, but some customers may feel a little uneasy that their package is enjoying a more public ride. Then again, subway passengers may be forced to share a crowded carriage with an Amazon pushcart. Maybe it’s time for the drones to do their thing.

Amazon disables Sony TV Amazon Instant Video app on other devices
Earlier this week we reported on efforts to take the version of the Amazon Instant Video app for Sony TV devices and port it over to other Android TV devices like the Nexus Player. New reports indicate that Amazon has rendered the app inoperable on non-Sony TV devices.
Users were interested in the Sony version of the Instant Video app because it was a better user experience than the version Amazon was officially deploying through the Google Play Store. Installation did require sideloading the APK.
Members of the XDA community are currently looking through the code in hopes of figuring out how Amazon may be determining the installs are not on Sony TV devices.

Google takes aim at Amazon, eBay with upcoming ‘Buy’ buttons
Amazon, eBay, and everyone else in the e-commerce industry should prepare for impact as Google plans to launch ‘Buy’ buttons.
The new buttons, reportedly arriving in coming weeks, will appear in search results when users search for products on their mobile devices. A “Shop on Google” banner will house the buttons and appropriate products. The buttons will indeed be paired with sponsored search results.
Here is how The Wall Street Journal describes the way in which Google’s ‘Buy’ buttons will work:
If shoppers click on the buy buttons, they will be taken to another Google product page to complete the purchase, the people explained. On that page, they will be able to pick sizes and colors and shipping options, as well as complete the purchase, one of the people said.
The products will still be provided and sold by retailers, rather than by Google. Retailers including Macy’s Inc. are in talks with Google about taking part in the launch, the people added. A Macy’s spokesman didn’t respond to a request for comment on Friday.
Google handles the product pages as well as the checkout process. Shoppers input their billing information just once and Google retains it for future purchases. Retailers will still be able to obtain address information and email addresses in the event that shoppers enroll in marketing programs offered by Google.
Google has no plans to bring the buttons to desktop users at this time. In fact, only a small percentage of search results will actually offer the buttons.

This app reminds you to drunkenly buy stuff at 2 am
The best kind of Amazon deliveries are often the ones you were too drunk to remember ordering. And with the help of the Drunk Shopping app, you’ll never miss another opportunity to do so…just as long as that opportunity occurs at 2am on a Saturday night. Developed by the same guy that brought us Troll The NSA and Unbaby.me, Drunk Shopping isn’t an app in the traditional sense; it’s really more of a service.
Users simply text “heyyyyyy” to 551-333-7865 to sign up for the service. Please note that’s six Y’s, the requisite number to indicate you’re about to make multiple bad decisions in rapid succession. Once you do sign up, Drunk Shopping will text you every Saturday night at 2 am (technically, that’s Sunday morning) with another ludicrous item to purchase. it will even help motivate you to pull out your credit card with some gentle text-based encouragement. However, you’re on your own when it comes time to return the products.

Amazon drops the price of the Fire Phone to £99, again
Remember Amazon’s Fire Phone? It hasn’t even celebrated its first birthday yet but you’d be forgiven for never giving the retailer’s first smartphone a second thought. In a bid to rectify the device’s original sky-high pricing, the company took a hit and dropped the cost of the Fire Phone to £99 back in January. Now it’s back. For the next week, you’ll be able to pick up the 32GB model for under a ton, with the 64GB version setting you back £179. For some reason, the 64GB model is actually £30 more than it was during Amazon’s previous Fire sale, but you’re still making a £200 saving on either O2-locked device.
Despite being a complete flop, Amazon has said that this won’t be last Fire Phone we’ll see. Like the original Kindle, the company reckons it will learn from its mistakes and come back with better devices. It could mean that today’s promotion will help clear the way for something new from the internet giant — it certainly can’t expect customers to remain interested in an aging phone that it’s all but given up on.
