Amazon’s Prime Day is a global shopping event for Prime members with more deals than Black Friday

Amazon Prime Day

An Amazon Prime subscription brings a set of perks that includes unlimited 1 or 2 day delivery, access to TV programs and films via Prime Instant, over 1 million songs via Prime Music as well as unlimited photo storage via the retailer’s Prime Photo service. Now, on the eve of its 20th anniversary, Amazon has announced Prime Day, a global shopping event exclusively for Prime subscribers.

Prime Day will be held on July 15th, with Amazon boasting that the sale will have more deals than Black Friday. Prime Day deals will be available for subscribers in the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Japan, Germany, France, Canada and Austria. Deals will start as often as every ten minutes, and subscribers will have access to Lightning Deals, Popular Deals of the Day as well as unlimited free shipping. Greg Greeley, the Vice President of Amazon Prime had this to say:

“If you’re not already a Prime member, you’ll want to join so you don’t miss out on one of the biggest deals extravaganzas in the world.”

As implied, in order to access the Prime Day deals on July 15th, you must be an Amazon Prime subscriber. If you live in the UK and have been put off by the £79 subscription fee, you might be interested to find out that Amazon has lowered the price to £59 until July 8th. Don’t forget, if you live in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Dallas, Manhattan, Miami or London, you can also take advantage of one or two-hour delivery via the Prime Now app.

Finally, if you enter a photo to amazon.com/primeliving showing how Amazon Prime has helped you in your life, you stand a chance of winning a $10,000 gift card. There’s one gift card allocated per Prime eligible country, and you must submit the picture before July 15th.

Are you more likely to join Amazon Prime after finding out about Prime Day on July 15th? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Amazon Cloud Drive finally gets its own app

amazon_cloud_drive_app_icon

Using Amazon’s cloud storage service has been somewhat of a hassle considering the lack of any dedicated mobile apps. Users were limited to a watered-down app that only offered access to photographs and music. Today, Amazon finally released mobile apps for Cloud Drive across multiple platforms that show users everything that they have saved online. The launch of Cloud Drive’s mobile apps comes a few weeks after Amazon launched the service’s SDK, meaning that the app should be see integration with other apps and services in the near future.

Amazon offers two separate subscriptions for access to Cloud Drive that both start with 3-month trials. Users get unlimited storage for photographs and 5GB for other files for $11.99 per year. Amazon Prime members also get this subscription’s features at no additional cost. Storing absolutely anything and everything without being capped costs $59.99 per year.

Amazon’s Cloud Drive storage service gets dedicated mobile apps

While Amazon already offered mobile apps for sorting your photos and music parked in its Cloud Drive repository, there wasn’t an option for getting at all of your stored files. Late last week, a dedicated Cloud Drive app for iOS arrived in the iTunes App Store, joining both Android and Amazon versions that debuted in late June — all three of which rolled out rather quietly. Similar to the Dropbox app, the mobile software allows you to organize and access photos, videos, documents, spereadsheets and other files you’ve stored in Cloud Drive. As you might expect, you can also preview images (no editing abilities), PDFs and other documents from within before sharing in another app, with a link or as an email attachment. And yes, you can use the app to play videos and music stored in Amazon’s cloud, too. Until now, desktop apps for PC and Mac offered the only direct access to Cloud Drive as a whole, and mobile devices could only leverage those media-specific apps.

If you’re in need of a refresher, there’s not free tier for the service, only a 3-month trial at no cost. From there, unlimited photo storage will set you back $12 a year while $60 per year secures the Unlimited Everything plan. Of course, Prime and Fire device owners get the unlimited photo storage option for free.

Amazon hasn’t specified which products will be on sale but the company does offer a range of products including electronics, toys, movies, clothing and more will all be on offer in the sale. If you’re not already an Amazon member, you’ll need to stump up and give Jeff Bezos $99/£79 to be eligible to take part in the sale or you know, sign up for a free 30-day trial.

Amazon Prime currently offers free next day delivery (including weekends) on thousands of items and Prime membership also includes the ability to stream millions of means through Amazon Instant Video along with one hour delivery in selected cities through Amazon Prime Now. If you were looking for another reason to become a Prime member, the ‘Prime Day’ sale may be worth the subscription fee.

Amazon offers £20 Prime discount for its 20th birthday

Amazon Prime Day

Not content with holding traditional retail sales events, Amazon’s decided to make up one of its own. “Prime Day,” as it’s known, starts on July 15th and will let the company celebrate 20 years of selling things on internet by selling you more things on the internet (if you already have a Prime subscription). Amazon knows that people will want in on its upcoming discount day, so it’s marking down its yearly subscription for those who haven’t yet signed up. Between now and midnight on July 8th, Prime will cost £59, saving you £20 for your first 12 months.

Of course, Prime Day is another way for Amazon to bait people into handing over more money, but the company has added more perks to the program over time. Just last week, the company debuted one-hour deliveries in certain parts of London, which will roll out to more UK cities before the end of the year. That’s on top of the 15,000 movies and TV episodes, unlimited photo storage and access to the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library already included in the subscription.

If you’ve been deliberating over whether to stump up the cash for Prime but came unstuck over the price, Amazon’s gesture might be worth taking up. However, know that there’s every chance you’ll cancel out that saving should you decide to get involved when Prime Day comes around later this month.

Amazon’s ‘Prime Day’ sale will have ‘more deals than Black Friday’

Amazon’s turning 20 on July 15th and will celebrate the occasion by giving you another reason to sign up for Prime. The company is launching Prime Day, a “global shopping event” that promises to have “more deals than Black Friday.” Unfortunately, you’ll only be allowed to participate if you give Jeff Bezos $99 a year, or you take this chance to sign up for the free trial. The event kicks off at midnight PST on July 15th, and is open to all members in nine countries including the US, Canada and the UK. Of course, since Amazon sells more than just big-box electronics, you’ll also find lightning deals in every department from clothing and sports through to patio furniture. We don’t know if this is intended to become an annual event, but we’ve asked the company, since it’ll take a few years for the diary makers to catch on.

Sony Xperia Z3+ available to the US through Amazon for $660

So the Sony Xperia Z3+ wasn’t the big update that we were all expecting over the Z3, but it is still a fantastic device with great specs all things considered.

You can now buy the Xperia Z3+ through Amazon in the United States; the model available is the international version, which is compatible with US GSM carriers such as AT&T, and T-Mobile.

The Xperia Z3+ features a 5.2-inch screen, Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor (spoiler-alert), 3GB of RAM, and a 20.7-Megapixel camera.

It’ll set you back $660 for the black and aqua green colors on Amazon, or $675 for the copper model.

You can check the device out on Amazon here.

Sony Xperia Z3+ can now be bought unlocked on Amazon US

Sony_Xperia_Z3+ (2)

The Sony Xperia Z3+ has been rolling out across the world, but consumers in the US were left with only the Verizon variant. However a few Amazon sellers have now listed the single or dual SIM unlocked variants for sale at roughly $670 (currently).

The Amazon orders are not fulfilled by Amazon and may not be shipped from within the US. That means if you have any issues returns are handled by the seller and not Amazon. Always read the description and other details carefully when buying from marketplace sellers. We should also note that the model number is listed as E6553. It will work with GSM carriers only meaning Verizon and Sprint customers will not be able to use it.

The Amazon product description lists the following specifications:

  • 5.2-inch 1080p FHD (1920×1080), IPS display sRGB 130% TRILUMINOS 700cd brightness X-Reality for Mobile

  • Quad-core 1.5 GHz & Quad-core 2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit CPU; Adreno 430

  • 32 GB Internal Storage, 3 GB RAM, supports microSD up to 128GB

  • Camera (Main): 1/2.3″ 20.7 MP Exmor RS, ISO12800 Photo/ 3200 Video, 4K video capture and output Steadyshot with Intelligent active mode; Front: 5 MP, Exmor R, 22 mm wide angle, Steadyshot with Intelligent active mode

  • Nano-SIM, works with GSM carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile etc.), 4G works in US

Amazon USA now carrying the unlocked Sony Xperia Z3+

Sony-Xperia-Z41

The Sony Xperia Z3+ (or Z4, as it’s known in Japan) has been the subject of much attention for a few weeks now, as many felt the device to be anything but the handset they were expecting. While the global roll-out formally began last week, customers in the USA looking for the device are limited to the Verizon variant which, admittedly, has more than a few improvements. Those Americans looking for the standard Z3+ can now do so at Amazon, where a few individual sellers are now listing the unlocked device, both Single and Dual SIM variants, for around $670.

It should be noted that as orders for this item are not fulfilled by Amazon, the device may (or may not) ship from within the USA, and returns are handled by the seller as opposed to Amazon. Those interested should make sure to read about buying from marketplace sellers as well as ask any relevant questions before purchasing. The model number is listed as E6553, and works with GSM carriers only, so Verizon and Sprint customers will need to look elsewhere.

Sony Xperia Z4v 2

Those seeking to buy a carrier-subsidized Z3+ must seek out the Verizon Sony Xperia Z4v.

The Amazon product description lists the following specifications:

  • 5.2-inch 1080p FHD (1920×1080), IPS display sRGB 130% TRILUMINOS 700cd brightness X-Reality for Mobile
  • Quad-core 1.5 GHz & Quad-core 2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit CPU; Adreno 430
  • 32 GB Internal Storage, 3 GB RAM, supports microSD up to 128GB
  • Camera (Main): 1/2.3″ 20.7 MP Exmor RS, ISO12800 Photo/ 3200 Video, 4K video capture and output Steadyshot with Intelligent active mode; Front: 5 MP, Exmor R, 22 mm wide angle, Steadyshot with Intelligent active mode
  • Nano-SIM, works with GSM carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile etc.), 4G works in US

The Japanese model has already seen notifications about heat problems with the device due to the inclusion of the Snapdragon 810. Sony itself made a public statement about the issue, and supposedly it has already begun to update the Z3+ to address the potential problem. Still, the Xperia Z3+ is a solid, premium phone with an absolutely fantastic camera and is well-worth considering if you’re in the market for a new device.
