Top selling items per country on Amazon Prime Day
Amazon Prime Day has since passed and while many consumers felt disappointed with the deals it was amazing for Amazon. They sold 34.4 million items which is 398 per second! As well as 18% growth compared to Black Friday 2014. That is truly astonishing figures and no wonder why Amazon said they are excited to host it again next year.
“Prime Day was a record-breaker globally – it surpassed all of our expectations,” said Alexandre Gagnon, Country Manager for Amazon.ca. “This week has been the busiest ever for Prime signups and we saw more members shopping on Amazon.ca on Prime Day than on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. We can’t wait to do it again next year.”
Here are the top sold items on Prime Day per country:
-
Canada: Huggies Diapers
-
US: Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy
-
UK: Lenovo FLEX 10 10.1-inch Multimode Touchscreen Notebook
-
Spain: SSD Drive
-
Japan: Green Smoothie mix
-
Italy: Logitech Keyboard
-
Germany: Croc Sandals
-
France: Monopoly Boardgame
-
Austria: Croc Sandals
A few other insane facts about Prime Day are they sold 51,000 Bose headphones, compared to only eight the previous Wednesday. A total of 56,000 Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy boxsets. Even 10,000 Meguiar’s X2020 Supreme Shine Microfiber Towels, compared to 244 on the same day last week.

Amazon’s reportedly bringing its grocery delivery service to the UK
Amazon’s made a name for itself as the online store that sells practically everything, but it’s certainly not a site you visit for your weekly shop. That might change in near future, however, as according to The Times, Amazon is gearing up to launch its AmazonFresh grocery-delivery service in the UK. Amazon introduced the same-day delivery service for household essentials in the US last year, and its now thought it could premiere in London — where Amazon launched one-hour Prime deliveries last month — as early as September. AmazonFresh would effectively be competing with the likes of Ocado and the delivery options of several bricks-and-mortar supermarkets, but it’s not quite that simple, and we doubt it’ll have existing players quaking in their boots.
You see, in the US AmazonFresh is positioned as a premium service, and you can’t even begin to load up your virtual basket with bread and milk without a “Prime Fresh” subscription that costs $299 per year (roughly £192). That’s a hefty mark-up on the standard $99 Prime subscription, and even then, you still have to pay a delivery fee if your basket doesn’t meet the $50 free delivery threshold. Chances are Amazon will introduce a similarly pricey Fresh subscription in the UK, which will undoubtedly put a lot of potential customers off the service. It could become more attractive in time, however, if Amazon brings its Dash shopping-assistant gadget and quick-order buttons over here, though these are still only being piloted in the US for now. Naturally, we reached out to Amazon to confirm the launch of Fresh in the UK, but all it had to say was: “We do not comment on rumour or speculation.”

HBO Now comes to Android and Fire OS devices, coming soon to Chromecast and Fire TV
Back in May at Google I/O 2015, Google announced that the popular HBO Now television streaming service would make its way to Android sometime in the near future. That day has finally come, and the app is now available for download on Android phones and tablets, as well as Amazon Fire devices. Support for Chromecast, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick is coming soon, according to HBO.
The application has yet to hit the Google Play Store, but you can head to the Amazon Appstore to download it if you’d like. New customers who download the app will receive a 30-day free trial of the service. If you decide to stick with it after your 30 days are up, HBO Now will cost $14.99 per month.
HBO Now is a great way to experience Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, Veep, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and all of your other favorite shows and movies without the need to subscribe to a cable provider. Oh, and if you don’t have an Android device lying around, you can also access the service from your computer. Pretty nifty!
If you’re interested in downloading the app, check out the Amazon Appstore link below. We’ll let you know once it makes its way to the Play Store.
HBO Now hits Android devices, coming soon to Chromecast and Fire TV
After HBO Now was announced for Apple devices earlier this year, the network promised to bring it to the Android faithful this summer. Well, the time has come. If you own an Android phone or tablet, you can now access the standalone TV streaming option for $15 a month. You’ll still have to wait to employ a Chromecast, Fire TV or Fire TV Stick to do your watching, though, but the service is said to arrive on those gadgets soon enough. Apple’s 90-day exclusive window has ended, which allows folks who prefer Google’s operating system a chance to give HBO Now a shot three months after its debut. And it doesn’t require a cable subscription like HBO Go. If you decide to take the leap, you’ll get access to shows like Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley and True Detective in addition to a library of older series (The Sopranos, etc.) and movies. However, if you choose to wait until you can stream it to your set-top box or dongle, we can’t blame you.

Amazon Prime Day hits heights as customers left unhappy
Yesterday’s Amazon Prime Day sale hit several heights for the shopping giant but customers were left disappointed as deals failed to live up to the company’s promises of unbelievable deals. At least that’s the general consensus about Amazon’s first attempt to make its very own shopping day, which the company promised would be “bigger than Black Friday”.

The shopping giant celebrated its 20th birthday by holding the Prime Day sale, which was expected to offer previously-unseen levels of discounting in a true celebration of the way Amazon has changed our shopping habits. What actually transpired however, was something very different.
A number of Amazon Prime shoppers stayed up later (or got up early) to jump on the Prime Day bandwagon only to find the deals were disappointing. The company offered large discounts on its own products – including the Amazon Fire TV Stick, Kindle Fire HD and Amazon Echo – and while these were available for a long period of the day, the rest of the offers were lightning deals.
Like the name suggests, they were on offer for a limited period of time and unless you had the reflexes of a ninja feline, you probably wouldn’t have got the really good deals. Indeed, while we were updating our US and UK roundups, I found that – at least with the UK – a lightning deal would be 100% claimed in the few minutes it took to update the post.
On social media, the giant faced a bit of a backlash from customers who found the deals didn’t live up to Amazon’s promise.
Well done Amazon, the only deals I was really interested in were sold out before I woke up. #PrimeDay
— Dave Bohnert (@copiedline) July 15, 2015
The best deal I’ve seen so far is 15% off a box of pop tarts. #AmazonPrimeDay
— Sakeef Salman (@ChiefSakeef) July 15, 2015
When a deal was fully claimed, Amazon added people to a waitlist and at least on the items I joined the waitlist for, I found myself behind over 200 people in the queue with Amazon rating my chances of getting the deal as “POOR”.
First reaction to #PrimeDay? If I wanted to be on a waitlist, I’d apply to college again. Walmart site seems easier to navigate than Amazon.
— Paul R. La Monica (@LaMonicaBuzz) July 15, 2015
Some people even claimed that the only deals with large availability were items that no one really wanted.
#AmazonPrimeDay is a horrible sale with misleading promotion. all these deals on candy and insoles. where’s the stuff we want? @amazon
— Jamal (@inf) July 15, 2015
E-commerce sales tracker ChannelAdvisor found that by noon, Amazon’s third party U.S. same-stores sales were about 80 percent up on the same day last year and CEO Scot Wingo confirmed that the number was likely to hit 100% by the end of the day, marking four times the growth experienced so far this year.
Both Amazon and its rival Walmart – who launched its own sale yesterday to compete with Prime Day – saw spikes in traffic that resulted in slow loading times, although the latter had a lot more issues according to Internet performance firm Catchpoint Systems. Even with all the complaints, Morningstar Senior Analyst R.J. Hottovy said the sale bodes well for Amazon:
“You’re going to hear some complaints about it, but people still carry on in this treasure hunt. The limited supply of these deals has some people going and even buying items later at full price.”
In a nutshell, Amazon Prime Day pretty much achieved what Amazon wanted it to; millions of customers flocking to its website in the hope of picking up a bargain but being left to fend for the scraps. For Amazon this meant clearing lots of dead stock and plenty of space for new inventory for the second half of the year. Customers may have been unhappy but Amazon got what it wanted so hopefully Prime Day will become a regular sale and without doubt, the number of new signups for Amazon Prime was definitely a bonus for the shopping giant.
I personally grabbed the Fire TV Stick (which was almost half price at £19.00 versus a normal price of £35.00 in the UK) but missed out on loads of deals as the inventory just didn’t seem to be there. [Deal] Amazon discounts its own hardware for Prime Day
Today, Amazon is hosting its Prime Day with great deals on products exclusive for Prime members. If you haven’t signed up already, you can do so and still take advantage of the abundance of deals. - Save 15% on Kindle and Fire accessories when purchasing two select covers, screen protectors, or other accessories

Amazon confirms Spike Lee’s ‘Chi-Raq’ is its first original movie
After being rumored for months, Amazon just confirmed that it’s producing Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq as its first original film. It’s even going to get a theatrical run, giving it a shot at Oscar consideration, reports The Wrap. The film, which stars plenty of big names Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Hudson and Wesley Snipes, centers on inner-city gang violence in Chicago (Iraq + Chicago, get it?). Lee’s most recent film, Da Sweet Blood of Jesus, was a low-budget affair crowdfunded by Kickstarter, so it’s not a huge surprise to see him explore new production models with Amazon. Chi-Raq’s subject matter seems much more compelling than Lee’s Oldboy remake, so we’re hoping it’s closer to his earlier films like Do the Right Thing. “I’m honored to be part of the film that will launch Amazon Studios and to tell a story that is so important,” Lee said in a statement. “Please don’t be fooled by the title of Chi-Raq, this new Spike Lee joint will be something very special.”

Amazon rivals launch their own Prime Day sales

Amazon is currently celebrating its 20th birthday with a Prime Day sale – which it claims will be bigger than Black Friday – but its rivals don’t want Amazon to have all the fun. Tech site Newegg and retailer Walmart are both hosting their own sales but while Walmart’s runs for 90-days, Newegg is going head to head with Amazon by offering 24-hour discounts on a range of electronic items.
The FantasTECH sale offers big discounts on items ranging from headphones to hard drives and the biggest deals include almost half-price Beats headphones, a gaming laptop for under $1000 and a 2-in-1 tablet for less than half its usual price. Like Newegg, Amazon is also focusing on tech and while its Kindle range is on offer for the whole day – including a Fire TV Stick for just £19.00 – its lightning deals offer limited time discounts on a whole range of products.
Our pick of the Newegg deals includes:
- MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost-444 Gaming Laptop: $999.99 – 44% saving
- Lenovo Miix 2 11-inch 2-in-1 tablet: $399.99 – 52% saving
- ASUS 27-inch 3D-ready monitor: $349.99 – 36% saving
- Seagate 4TB Internal Hard Drive: $124.99 – 38% saving
- JBL J56BT Bluetooth On-Eat Headphones: $39.99 – 76% saving
- Targus CleanVu Cleaning Pads for phones, tablets & monitors: $0.99 – 94% saving

Walmart has also chosen today to launch a sale featuring more than 2,000 price “rollbacks” but unlike both Newegg and Amazon, the sale will last for 90 days. Walmart’s sale is open to all shoppers on its website, which is unsurprising given that the company publicly criticised Amazon’s requirement that you need to be a Prime customer – at a cost of $99 per year – in order to access the Prime Day sale.
Walmart’s sale isn’t only on technology however, with the company also offering discounts on a range of outdoor furniture, toys, tents and household items. Some of its tech deals include discounts on tablets, cell phones, accessories, laptops, peripherals, components and software. There’s also big discounts on clothing, home, sports and garden items including a 3-burner Gas Barbecue for almost half price.

These are the Amazon UK ‘Prime Day’ deals you should know about

Ready for some deals? Today is Amazon’s so-called “Prime Day,” an exclusive 24-hour promotion for people that have signed up to Prime. Yes, it’s a marketing gimmick, but if you’re already paying for the service — or have been debating a subscription recently — there are some worthwhile gadgets being sold on the cheap. Some of the daily deals last until midnight, but in typical Amazon fashion there are also “lightning” discounts that will only be available for shorter periods. To take advantage of everything decent, you’ll probably need to drop in sporadically or keep an eye on social media.
Already, there are some deals that could be worth your hard-earned cash. Amazon’s Fire TV Stick has been dropped to £19, which is 46 percent off its regular price (£35). The beefier Fire TV has been reduced by £20 to £59 and the Fire HD 7 tablet is now half price — £59, rather than £119. Outside of Amazon’s hardware family, you might also be interested in a 1TB PlayStation 4, which is being sold with a PlayStation TV microconsole, Destiny, Ultra Street Fighter IV and three months of PlayStation Plus for £329. On the Microsoft side, you can pick up a 1TB Xbox One with an extra wireless controller and a copy of Halo: The Master Chief Collection for the same price. If you’re looking for a fitness tracker with a difference, the Microsoft Band will also be sold later today for £118.99. To avoid disappointment, best keep your eyeballs locked on this page until midnight.
