MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones Review: The best earphones you can get for $14.99 (or $9.99 right now)

MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones ReviewThose of you who regularly visit AndroidSPIN will likely know we’re big fans of MEElectronics products. They epitomize value for money in the audio products market by combining great audio quality with well-made products with plenty of extras. With their latest headphones, the MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones, MEElectronics has outdone even themselves in the value department by offering a great sounding pair of earphones for just $14.99 USD, and even offering it for the introductory price of $9.99. Let’s see exactly what this will get you.

What’s in the box

MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones ReviewIf you needed any indication of what kind of deal you’re getting with the M9 Classic, you need only look at the packaging – no frills packaging means more quality on the inside, or at least, that’s the idea. Inside, you will find the M9 Classic earphones themselves as well as six additional earbuds in different sizes. The M9 Classic also comes with a double layer earbud as standard and I haven’t changed these since I got the earphones. More on that later.

MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones ReviewYou might have guessed already from the name of the M9 Classic that they are based on another of MEElectronics’ line of audio products, the M9. We’ve had a look at the M9P (2nd gen) before, and we found it to be one of the best value earphones you can get (read the full review here). The M9 Classic adopts the same 9mm drivers as the M9P as well as a similar motivation to provide great value, but does it with much more cost cutting. We’ve already mentioned the cardboard packaging, but unlike almost every other MEElectronic product we’ve looked at, the M9 Classic won’t be coming with a bag to carry your spares in, though you can probably make use of the ziplock bag you get them in if you needed to.

MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones ReviewOverall, the M9 Classic has a predictably simplistic design, with design cues taken from the M9 line. I think it’s quite a sleek design, though the clear, plastic insulation can look a bit dubious in certain light.

How does it perform

MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones ReviewAs we mentioned before, the M9 Classic has the same audio drivers as the M9 so it’s unsurprising that they sound almost exactly the same. Much like the M9, the bass and mids are clear and even the highs are well formed – it was just as comfortable playing Savage’s Freaks as it was playing Bach’s Concerto No. 1 and there was no hint of distortion no matter how loud I turned them (without making my ears bleed).

MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones ReviewOne peeve I had with the M9P was that the earbud material was a smooth plastic that would often have trouble staying in my ear – the M9 Classic uses a softer plastic and doesn’t appear to have the same issues. If anything, I found myself enjoying the fit of the M9 Classic almost as much as the Denon Music Maniac earphones I declared as my favourite fitting earphones so far – and it’s not second by much. The M9 Classic is also smaller and presumably lighter than the M9 as well, making it a lightweight package to wear and transport.

What I like about the M9 Classic earphones

MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones ReviewIt’s hard not to mention the price when it comes to the M9 Classic. With the pedigree of the M9 earphones, even at the full retail price of $14.99, the M9 Classic is a fantastic deal, and the introductory price of $9.99 makes it an absolute steal if you’re looking for something that sounds great, but doesn’t necessarily need to look flashy.

What I don’t like about the M9 Classic earphones

MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones ReviewWhile the M9 Classic doesn’t look flashy, it can look a bit tacky sometimes. The clear plastic over the the inner weaved black insulation can look cool up close but in general the M9 Classic looks a bit cheap, perhaps a bit too literally, for my tastes anyway. I’m not going to comment on the practicality of such a configuration, and at the end of the day, beauty is in the eye of the beholder – or the person paying for it.

Final Thoughts

MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones ReviewWhat else is there to say about the M9 Classic? It’s ridiculously cheap and sounds fantastic, which should tick all the boxes for a solid audio option for yourself or something to stuff stockings with later this year. It might not be the flashiest or best looking earphones around, but its beauty is in the way it gets the job done. And did I mention it’s cheap?

The M9 Classic earphones are normally $14.99 USD, but MEElectronics are currently having an introductory sale that brings the price down to $9.99. To make the most of this deal while it lasts, be sure to visit the MEElectronics M9 Classic In-Ear Headphones product page here.

HTC Re Camera: An always on handheld with companion apps up for pre-order for $200

HTC has taken to the stage tonight to announce some new goodies for consumers. There was some new software, a new phone and the expected Re Camera. The camera, called Re, is available for pre-order starting right now for $199.99 in two colors options, white or orange.

Re Camera Banner

The Re is a funny little device with a lot of surprises. The previous leaked lifestyle images of Re were spot on. The device is a small cylindrical tube with a curved end that houses a camera lens. It fits in your hand like a set of ‘C’ batteries. The Re spec outline is pretty interesting.

  • 16MP 146 degree ultra-wide angle lens (f2.8)
  • Takes 1080p video (30fps FHD)
  • 32GB internal storage and SD card slot
  • Only offers two buttons
  • Waterproof IPX7 (waterproof cap enhances to IPX8)
  • 820 mAh battery
  • BLE, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n with Wi-Fi direct
  • Micro USB charging port

ReRe 3The Re only offers up two buttons. One found on the top curve where your thumb naturally goes. This button is pressed to take a photo. If you long press it it then it starts the video. To stop the video simply press it again. There is also a button under the lens. Kind of like a trigger. This will give you quick access to take 1080p slow motion video that is 4x slower than life. Hope that makes sense. You might notice I didn’t mention and power button. There isn’t one. With the use of various sensor, the Re is always on and ready to go when you are. The battery is listed as a 840 mAh and HTC offers up that it should take 1200 photo or a 1 hour 40 minute video before it needs to be charged.

Re 2

The whole thing loos and sounds pretty cool really. It gets better though. One thing I said that HTC would need to do to make the Re have a better chance of being a success was for them to make it not HTC specific. As in only works with HTC devices. They did. The Re will offer a free companion app that will be available for Android and iOS devices. With the app you can sync your images to your phone or tablet, use the phone or tablet as the view finder (even from a distance) to take photos or start and stop video and you can even set it up to take time lapse photos. ie. Set the Re up facing out a window and program it to take stills at set times for you.

Re Camera App

Jason Mackenzie, HTC President for the US, also had some future details to divulge. In coming months there will be an update to the app that will enable real-time live broadcasting from the Re to YouTube. Not to mention they are opening up the API and SDK to third party developers.

The Re camera is available to pre-der through the official www.recamera.com website for $199.99. You have the choice of white or orange right now. Best Buy will be getting the exclusive on the navy blue offering.

Ambi Climate is the smarter way to control your air conditioner [Kickstarter]

ambi climateThe allure of the “Smart Home” gets stronger with each passing year with more and more cool technology released oriented towards making home life more connected. The primary issue of this currently is the formidable cost associated of this “Smart Home” – while the concept of connectedness is tantalizing, replacing swathes of equipment in the home isn’t exactly a cheap exercise. That’s why we were so excited to hear about Ambi Climate, by Ambi Labs, a new Kickstarter campaign that is looking at bringing smart air conditioning while still being able to utilize your existing air conditioner.

ambi climateUsing the Ambi Climate hub, you’re able to send infrared signals to air conditioners from almost all major brands and control it using an Android or iOS companion app. But it’s more than just an expensive AC remote – the Ambi Climate also uses “Ambi Mode” which allows it monitor not only your home’s climate, but the local weather and your air conditioner’s performance to judge what are the optimal settings for your home. What’s more, Ambi Climate also geo-location signals to turn on your AC when you are close to home so you arrive to your desired temperature, and is accurate enough to turn off the AC when nobody is in the room being cooled.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ambi-labs/ambi-climate-the-smart-add-on-for-your-air-conditi/widget/video.htmlIf that sounds like the type of thing you need in your life, you can contribute to the Kickstarter campaign at the link below. In just first 24 hours of the campaign, the Ambi Climate campaign has already amassed $54,759, more than doubling its initial target of $25,000. While the early bird pledges are already taken, you can still get an Ambi Climate starting at $99, $50 off the expected retail price for the package.

What do you think about Ambi Climate – is this something you’d want in your home? Let us know your thoughts.

For Your Consideration: mobile accessories to check out this weekend (Oct. 4)

for_your_consideration

Welcome back! It’s week two of the accessory round up! We have everything from sd cards to the chromecast.. Check it out!

Samsung Micro SD Cards 64, 32, 16

samsungsdcard

Micro SD Cards are an absolute must if you don’t want to worry about the cloud and carry a lot of music and videos with you. Micro SD cards looked like they were going away, but now they are on almost every flagship that came out this year. I have always used Samsung SD cards, and they have some great sales going on right now. Check them out here on Amazon: 16gb, 32gb, and 64gb.

LG G Watch/Android Wear

LG_G_Watch_500

One of Android’s newest products – Android Wear, is amazing. If you have an Android phone, it’s worth looking into. I have been using the LG G Watch since mid-July and have been completely satisfied with it. To sum it up: you have access to all of your notifications on your wrist, as well as some apps that can build more functionality in their app. The LG G Watch can be found here. LG g watch.

Zero Lemon Extended Battery

s5zerolemon

Phone batteries are getting better and better with every phone that gets released. But sometimes the battery just isn’t good enough. Zero Lemon’s extended batteries will add literally days of life to your device. There is quite a large downside, and that’s the custom case. Since the battery is so big, it comes with a custom made case for each phone. I have a friend that buys these for every phone he has, they are highly recommended. Check them out for the LG G3, Note 3, and the S5 here : LG G3, Note 3, S5

Chromecast

chromecast

The Chromecast, the surprise device that came out of Google IO last year has quickly taken off. It has been ranked in the top 5 streaming video items on Amazon since it was released last year. The Chromecast will let you send content from your phone to your t.v. Netflix, Pandora, and HBO Go are just a few of the great apps that work great with Chromecast. We cover the Chromecast, as well as all things Chrome,  extensively on Chromewatching.com, so check it out if you get a chance. The Chromecast can be found on Amazon here: Chromecast

Bose SoundLink Mini Bluetooth Speaker

bose-soundlink-mini_10

I’ve used a couple of different bluetooth speakers, the Bose Soundlink is the best I have heard. The sound that this fairly small device can produce is amazing. It pairs easily with any bluetooth device, and even if the device doesn’t have bluetooth, you will still be able to connect the speaker using an auxiliary cable. Bose claims that the speaker gets 7 hours of battery life, I can say that they are very accurate, the battery life is good. Bose gets a mixed review from people: some people love them, some people think that they aren’t as good. I have personally used the Bose Soundlink, and I am a fan. Check it out on Amazon here: Bose Soundlink

Fanatec has a solution for using its pricey Xbox 360 racing wheels on the One

One of the biggest hassles of upgrading to a new gaming console is that by and large almost all of the accessories and peripherals you bought for the previous one are incompatible. High-end racing-wheel outfit Fanatec isn’t going to leave Xbox gamers high and dry, though. The outfit’s recently announced that it’ll soon release a “Fanatec wheel base” that allows you to plug in its existing lines of pricey Xbox 360 racing wheels, shifters and pedal sets into it and use them with Microsoft’s newest gaming system. The outfit’s also apparently closed a licensing deal with Redmond to bring new racing gear to the Xbox One as well. Considering the newly released Forza Horizon 2 and the upcoming The Crew and Project Cars, this should all be good news to virtual gearheads. Here’s to hoping a company steps up and does something similar for PlayStation 4 owners soon, too.

[Deal Alert] SanDisk Ultra 64GB micro SDXC memory card for 43% off

Micro SD cards are not dead. I know you have heard it in the past, and I am sure we will hear it plenty of times in the future. While many would like to believe that there is no need for them anymore, there are plenty of people out there, like myself, that finds them to still be a necessity in life. Especially when you get a fancy new device that offers some rather insane photo resolution and 4K recording ability. Sorry to tell ya, but 16GB internal storage just isn’t going to house a heck of a whole lot. To accommodate your life, there is another deal running on Amazon today for a SanDisk Ultra 64GB Micro SDXC class 10 card.

SanDisk Ultra Micro SD SDXC memory card

There are actually 2 versions of the same card. The old version of the card comes in with a list price of $99.99 and is on sale for $33.99 right now. The old version offers a slightly slower speed of 30MB/s. The newer version of the same card lists for $64.99 and is on sale for $36.99. The big difference is that the newer version of the card offers read speeds of 48MB/s. Shell out the additional $3 for 18MB/s faster read speeds. The difference might seem minimal in text, but in real world use you would notice the difference in a side-by-side comparison, even if it was only minimal.

If you thing 64GB is a little too much space, the 32GB variant is on sale for $17.99. Hit the link below to access all the card sizes and price tags.

Phiaton BT220 NC Bluetooth earbuds with NFC pairing announced for late October

I am not much of an earbud person myself. I prefer that full over the ear experience. Even though I know I look a bit ridiculous with them over my head while I walk down the street. Luckily I don’t walk down the street often. For those of you that do walk, jog, run, bike or any other combination of situations where earbuds are dramatically more practical, Phiaton has announced a new Bluetooth earbud set that is sure to make your adventures a bit more enjoyable. The Phiaton BT220′s are the latest from the premium audio manufacture and they certainly sound like they should pack quite the punch.

Phiaton BT220

“We’ve listened to the needs and desires of the community and we believe the BT 220 NC fulfills a much-needed gap in the headphone market” said James Baik, President of Phiaton. “The BT 220 NC, along with Phiaton’s whole line, was designed entirely with the user experience in mind.”

On paper the BT220′s bring you Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and allow you pair up two devices simultaneously. They also ring a few niceties that you don’t always find on other brands. Such as the ability to hardwire connect the earbuds if the battery dies on you. Battery life shouldn’t be too much of a worry though since they spec out at 17 hours of continuous music listening and 300 hours of standby. As you can see in the press image they are connected to a wireless receiver that is also a remote to control tracks, volume and calls. The remote also brings in a “monitor” control function that allows you to mute your tune, and deactivate the noise cancelling function, so you can hear things around you without needing to remove the earbuds. I am sure this will come in handy since the noise cancellation is stated to block out 95% of all ambient noise.

As for the more technical side of things the BT220′s use high quality dynamic speaker units that are 14.3 mm with a frequency range of 10 Hz ~27 kHz, an impedance of 32 Ohms and a sensitivity of 100dB at kHz.

The Phiaton BT220 NC’s will be on sale in late October for the premium price tag of $179. Feel free to check them out in a little more detail at the Phiaton website.

Need a new charging cable, try the FRiEQ

FRiEQ Hi-Speed MicroUSB

I don’t know about you, but I’ve started to consider a quality charging cable a must buy accessory.  Whenever I unbox a new smartphone it seems that the cable is shorter, thinner and more fragile.  This has forced me and I’m sure many of you, to look for other options.  A quality cable offers many advantages, but mostly ensures that you can reliably charge your beloved smartphone.  Because honestly, the world would come to a screeching halt if you woke up in the morning to a dead battery.

In my search for a new Micro USB cable I came across the FRiEQ Hi-Speed cable.  I have to admit, it was the colors that drew me in, but it was the blend of specs and value that convinced me to spend my money.  The FRiEQ Micro USB cable is six feet long, covered in tangle-free, braided nylon and has gold connectors at either end.  Best of all, FRiEQ claimed that this cable would cut down on the amount of time it took to charge my phone.  All of this for only $7.99, I was sold!

When I opened the package and inspected the cable, I was impressed right away.  The cable is thicker than most others I’ve used and the braided nylon keeps knots away.  The connectors are easy to manipulate and fit perfectly.  I tested the FRiEQ cable against, a stock LG cable and an Amazon Basics cable I’ve had for about a year.  I can verify that the FRiEQ cable definitely charged my LG G3 faster than the other cables by a good margin.

I’ve been using the FRiEQ Hi-Speed cable for about two months now and it has held up great.  It looks just as good now as the day I got it, but more importantly, it performs just as well as the day it came out of the package.  If you’re looking for a new charging cable, you cannot go wrong with the FRiEQ Hi-Speed.

For Your Consideration: mobile accessories to check out this weekend (Sept. 27)

for_your_consideration

Hey, Happy Saturday! Welcome to the first of an ongoing series of accessories round ups. The plan is to highlight at least five accessories to check out, but we’ll play loose with the number, especially if it pertains to different smartphones or tablets. Let’s jump right in!

The Glif

glif

The Glif is perfect for you if you have ever wanted to use your phone with a tripod. It has 2 purposes: it is a universal tripod mount, and you can use it as a kickstand. Its small and can be adjusted to fit any phone, even if the phone is in a case. It’s extremely portable, it comes with a keychain adapter so you can take it with you anywhere with your keys. The company, Studio Neat is from Austin,TX and the Glif is made in America. It can be found here on Amazon – The Glif.

Chargecard for Android

chargecard

If you have ever been stuck somewhere and needed a micro-usb cable for your phone, this one is for you. The Chargecard is shaped like a card and is made to fit in either a wallet or purse. The name is slightly deceiving, this is not a portable charger as the name implies; this is just a compact USB cable that fits in your wallet for whenever you need it. The reason I included it is because I can’t tell you how many times, I have been stuck and needed a USB cable, this would have helped a lot. It can be found here- Chargecard.

Spiderpodium

home-left-right-image-1_grande_1024x1024

I read about the Spiderpodium and thought of 1 thing: a holder for my phone in the car. I have had this problem in my car since I decided to get it back in March; I have nowhere to put it when I am in my car.

This accessory is one of the most versatile stands for a phone that I have ever seen. The stand has 8 flexible legs that can be arranged to grip and support your phone wherever you decide to put it.  The are two different versions: one for the phone, and a bigger one for the tablet.

LG Tones

lg tones

If you are in the market for some stereo bluetooth headphones, you should look at these strongly. I have owned a pair of these for about a year now, and they work unbelievably well. One of my favorite features is that it works with Google search on your phone, if you press one of the buttons on the device, it functions as if you just said “OK, Google” in the search app. They sound great, I haven’t had any issues with music or podcasts. Another of the cooler features is that these vibrate when receiving a call as well. Check them out at Amazon.

Otterbox Symmetry

lgx28-g3-20

I love Otterbox cases! I have used an Otterbox case for almost every phone I’ve used for over 2 years. I started with nothing but Commuter cases, which are smaller than the Defender, and have a screen protector included in every package. The new Symmetry case has caught my attention. I love that they are smaller and lighter than the Commuter, and offer a great level of protection.

What I don’t like is that they don’t come with screen protectors. Maybe Otterbox will include them at some point in the future. You can find one of these cases for some of the newer phones. Check out one of these symmetry cases for some of the more popular Android phones: LG G3, HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5.

Well, that’s all for this week! Let us know what you think about the accessories on the list. Also, let us know in the comments which accessories you want to see covered next!
