The iRig 2 wants to replace your guitar pedal board with a phone

IK Multimedia has been cranking out new versions of its iRig guitar adapter for phones and tablets for nearly four years. And at CES 2015, there’s yet another update. The iRig 2 still allows you to connect that axe to an iOS, Mac or Android device, but this time around, there’s a 1/4-inch output jack, so you can use the company’s mobile apps (like AmpliTube) alongside an amp with ease. It also means that, if you so choose, you could make that mobile device part of an effects loop, or replace it entirely. Sure, the sound of individual pedals is hard to beat, but this setup aims for connivence. There’s also a headphone jack to keep from annoying bandmates, and while the on-board gain control returns, a new toggle switch will bypass the connected mobile device entirely. If you’re considering giving it a go, the accessory will be available during the first quarter of 2015 for $39.99/€29.99.

Amazon Fire TV Stick starts shipping, Fire TV Remote app hits the Play Store

Amazon-Fire-TV-StickBack at the end of October Amazon announced a new dongle for your TV called the Amazon Fire TV Stick. The small HDMI device compares itself to Google’s Chromecast but bolsters some more powerful hardware as well as its own UI with physical remote. At the time of the announcement Amazon placed the Fire TV Stick up for pre-order. If you happened to be a Prime member you were able to grab the $39 unit for $19 during a short 48 hour window. Amazon planned to start shipping the pre-ordered units today.

In an announcement from Amazon, they have indeed confirmed that shipments for the pre-orders have started to go out. However, the demand was quite a bit higher than they anticipated.

Fire TV Stick has been our most successful device launch ever,” said Dave Limp, Senior Vice President, Amazon Devices. “We built a ton of these, but customer demand still outpaced our supply. We’re excited by the overwhelming customer response and the team is working hard to build more as quickly as possible.”

Needless to say, many pre-order buyers are going to be waiting quite a while for their Fire TV Sticks to arrive. I myself ordered one on October 28th, the last possible minute for the Prime promotion, and my estimated deliver date is set for January 9th. Currently Amazon has the Fire TV Stick listed to return to stock on January 15th which certainly doesn’t make it a hot device for the Holiday season now.

For those of you that are getting yours a bit sooner, then you will most likely want to go get your hands on the new Android app that was released today, Amazon Fire TV Remote. The Fire TV Remote app is the companion app for your phone and/or tablet. While the Fire TV Stick does come with a physical remote, the app gives you voice search functionality along with the ability to type on your device’s screen keyboard. Those that have experienced trying to type out something with a pointer on a TV screen knows just how painstaking that task can be.

The app is available now and is, of  course, free. Feel free to pick it up below so you don’t forget, but don’t expect it to be functional at all until your Fire TV Stick arrives and is connected to your Wi-Fi network.

Have an unhealthy smartphone addiction? Maybe the NoPhone is your way to wean yourself off

NoPhoneDo you know somebody with a debilitating smartphone addiction? Are they constantly on their phone fiddling with some app or social media? (If you can’t think of anyone, it’s probably you) Well, it looks like there may be a way for you to help ween them off smartphones with the NoPhone. In no way is the NoPhone a ‘phone’ in any sense of the word – there are absolutely no electronics inside – in fact, the only way that it even remotely resembles one is that it has the size and form factor of a phone so that it can be used as a “satirical security blanket”. In this way, people can still have something in their hand instead of feeling lost without their smartphone. Of course, it’s not meant to fight serious addition, much more a lighthearted way of making light of our society’s addiction to smartphones, but it has still garnered so much attention that the creators are now selling these ‘devices’ commercially.

nophone$12 USD will get you the basic NoPhone and the package will even include an instruction manual (presumably also satirical in nature). If you want to make light of a friend’s selfie addition, NoPhone even has a selfie version of the NoPhone for $18 (pictured above) which simply affixes a mirror to the front face of the ‘device. It’s certainly a novel way of raising awareness of an issue that appears to be the norm now, and I can forsee many a Christmas intervention using this NoPhone as a catalyst.

What do you think of the NoPhone? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

[Deal Alert] 64GB Micro SD Cards on Sale for $26.49, 32GB for $12.99; Today Only

While there are a number of phones that do not offer micro SD card support anymore, there are still plenty that do and that is sometimes a deciding factor for many people when they buy their new phone. Then we have tablets, MP3 players, cmaers and a whole slew of other devices that still use SD or Micro SD cards. The beauty of a micro SD card is the fact that they come with a converter card to make them full size if needed. That kills two birds with one stone most of the time. Today’s deal on Amazon certainly gives the public a heck of deal if boosting external storage via an SD or Micro SD card is the direction you need to go.

Sony class 10 UHS-1 64GB Micro SD card

That is a pretty killer deal on a 64GB card that has the speed to take those 1080p and 4k videos that some of these new devices can shoot. If you think 64GB is too much, you can get the 32GB for $12.99, 16GB for $7.99 or the 8GB for 8.99. Seems silly to not get the 16GB when the 8GB is a buck more. Snagging two 32GB could be good if you are on a bit of a budget and have multiple devices that could use the boost. They also have a few full size cards and USB flash drives on special today as well. The deal is only good for today, November 11th, so you best hurry if you want to snag some good deals on these.

ASUS ZenWatch in Stock in the Play Store for $199.99

The ASUS ZenWatch made its appearance on the Play Store yesterday with the exception that it couldn’t yet be ordered. Fast forward to today and now you can shell out a cool $199.99 and pick up sixth Android Wear powered smartwatch to hit the Play Store. The ASUS ZenWatch follows along the square screen design, but with a bit more of an elegant look than some of the other competitions. It still sports a 320 x 320 AMOLED display the 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor and 512MB’s of RAM.

ASUS ZenWatch

The ZenWatch is a bit different in its visual design with a slightly curved display and a bit more of a visually elegant design mix of brushed aluminum and leathers. It also has a few little additions that make it a bit more interesting. Like simply placing your hand over the display to dismiss calls, Tap Tap and Find my phone and custom watch faces. Take a quick watch of the video from ASUS to see it in action and to also catch the link for a chance to win one too.

With so many Android Wear choices out now, it all comes down to the little things in the design and abilities to get your money. While I don’t own one yet, the ZenWatch has been the one that keeps drawing me in. What are your thought on this one? Anyone out there pick one up from a retailer already?

Head to the Play Store to take a closer look and get one ordered.
