Nike’s self-lacing HyperAdapt shoes cost $720

Even if you couldn’t get your hands on an ultra-exclusive pair of Power Mags, there is a way to get self-lacing Nikes in 2016. The company’s HyperAdapt 1.0 shoes are about to go on sale, and they automatically adjust when the wearer puts them on. Despite internet rumors suggesting they would retail for more than $1,000 YouTuber Jacques Slade confirmed the correct price of $720.

Nike confirmed the shoes will be available to a “small” group of Nike+ members on November 28th via the “Reserved for You” feature on its app. Otherwise, they will go on sale at two of its NYC locations December 1st. Later in the month, two colorways will go on sale via Nike+ and select locations, although the exact details have not been revealed.

Facebook will also cut off fake news sites from ad money

Facebook has followed Google’s example and finally banned fake news sites from using its ad network to generate revenue, according to The Wall Street Journal. Fake news websites now fall under the “misleading, illegal and deceptive sites” category, which are already prohibited from using the company’s Audience Network. Facebook’s Audience Network shows its customers’ advertisements not just on the social network itself, but also on other mobile apps and websites.

If you’ll recall Mark Zuckerberg and co. came under fire after the elections, with people accusing the tech titan of helping skew the results by allowing election-related fake news to propagate. Zuckerberg strongly denied the accusations, claiming that 99 percent of the content you see on the website is authentic. According to a Gizmodo report, though, the company knew it had a problem with fake news websites and had the tool to block them. Facebook decided not to use that tool, because it would prevent most conservative news sources from showing up on people’s News Feeds. The company also denied that allegation.

As for this new development, a company spokesperson told The WSJ:

“While implied, we have updated the policy to explicitly clarify that this applies to fake news. We vigorously enforce our policies and take swift action against sites and apps that are found to be in violation. Our team will continue to closely vet all prospective publishers and monitor existing ones to ensure compliance.”

Rogers makes waiting for the cable guy less terrible with new tool

It’s no secret that waiting for the cable guy is one of the biggest annoyances in the world, next to stubbing your toe or getting pineapple on your pizza (seriously, what’s up with pineapple?), but Rogers wants to change that — the first annoyance at least — with its new EnRoute tool.

rogers-store-1.jpg?itok=tbH7n-ab

Debuting a month after its latest app-based ability to track data usage in real time, EnRoute allows cable customers to track their technician within a specific two-hour time window, rather than the “9 to 5” absurdity most cable customers are used to. Once an appointment is made, customers receive a unique URL over email or SMS that allows them to track the service time and see a map of where that person is.

The appointments themselves can be booked using a variety of methods, including Twitter, Facebook Messenger, on-site chat and over the phone. The URL is generated as a ticket, which is sent to the waiting customer. Rogers says it receives 260,000 calls per year pertaining to the arrival time of a technician.

EnRoute is rolling out to customers in Hamilton first, with a broader expansion early next year.

Android is finally on Instagram

instagram-galaxy-a8-lede.jpg?itok=uh8tIS

It looks like #TeamAndroid is keeping it real #nofilter style

Instagram has been on Android for a while, but now Android is on Instagram.

The folks from Mountain View have set up a new Instagram account and promise “#AndroidAdventures & more.” They have posted several static images and animations that form a colorful grid, but so far no adventures of any kind.

You can soon buy Nike’s self-lacing trainers, if you have £575 to spare

The future is almost here, and it’s expensive.

Nike has been teasing for a while that it will soon release self-lacing trainers inspired by the boots Marty wore in the film Back to the Future II, but now it’s finally ready to release them for all consumers to buy. According to Jacques Slade, a YouTube creator known for his sneaker affinity, Nike’s upcoming kicks will cost $720 (around £575) when they launch this holiday season.

Just CONFIRMED with NIKE. Hyperadapt 1.0 is NOT $1000. It is $720 releasing on 12/1. pic.twitter.com/eqcwybbRyN

— Jacques Slade (@kustoo) November 14, 2016

The HyperAdapt 1.0 shoes, which were revealed in October 2015, teased in May, and confirmed in September, will release on 1 December. They follow Nike’s limited edition Air Mags. Only 89 Air Mags were sold to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research. Like the Air Mags, the HyperAdapts will auto-tighten its laces when you hit a sensor, Nike said.

The tightness of the fit can also be adjusted with buttons on the side.
