Tudia Slim-Fit Cygen Protective Case for Motorola Moto E (2015)
If you are security conscious, it’s likely you use VPN’s on a regular basis. It’s also probable that you jump between different VPN apps on the Play Store to find which one is the better of the lot. If this sounds like you, Seed4.me VPN and Proxy is the ideal app for you. Available on the Play Store, it is free and has a 4.5 star rating.
Setup
I was quite surprised when I first opened the app. It took me straight to the VPN connect screen. No setup or registration was required. And yes, other apps may offer the same but Seed4.me seems different, perhaps because there are no annoying adverts that pop up everywhere. The app works without registration for seven days while your trial is active. If you decide to create an account later on, you can use that same VPN account for all your devices on Android, iPhone/iPad, Amazon Kindle and Desktop. Furthermore, the design is fairly aesthetic and simple to navigate.
Other than the ability to select your VPN location, there isn’t much settings-wise. You can only white list Wi-Fi networks as trusted, meaning that the VPN won’t activate once you connect to Wi-Fi. It’s really just what you will expect from a VPN app.
Overview
Seed4.me is simple to use. This is mainly due to the fact that the user interface is clean and straightforward. I say this first because it really stands out to me. There is literally one panel that you work with.
It’s super easy to connect. You just click the connect button, and it silently lurks in the background,
leaving you free from disruptions. Unfortunately, the lower network speeds that we experienced were a reminder that we were actively using a VPN. Most of the time it was fairly fast, but occasionally you’ll get a hitch along the way. I suppose this is inevitable and that all VPN’s experience this, to be fair.
There are a reasonable amount of locations to choose from. Twelve, actually. It may not be the most available out of all VPN’s, but you should be absolutely fine. At least, if you live in or near the US, UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, Russia, Netherlands, Ukraine, Spain, Germany, France, Italy or Canada. If there’s none for your country, you simply just pick the nearest one and all should be good.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Now’s also a good time to mention the price plans. For a very limited time only, Seed4.me comes with six months absolutely free, for a day after publication of this review. The usual price would be $20 for that period, with a seven day trial period. You can use Seed4.me on Android, iOS and PC.
How does it compare to the competition?
Quite well, I’d say. There are more professional VPN’s out there, but Seed4.me is suitable for virtually anyone, especially if you’re looking for a no-nonsense quick fix.
Pro’s:
– Clean, crisp interface
– Easy to use and setup
– Decent range of locations available
Con’s:
– A bit slow at times
Rating: 4,8
Conclusion
Seed4.me is a great, easy to use VPN. Definitely one of the better ones available on the market, it will have no trouble serving your needs. We particularly liked the clean interface and minimal disruptions. This is a great app for anyone seeking a good, solid VPN.

We have more Apple and Samsung lawsuit news, and we all know what that means. After years of legal battling, the two companies have finally decided to compromise and stop the never-ending lawsuits and have agreed to just get along.
Actually, Apple told the Supreme Court that it shouldn’t hear Samsung’s appeal over their massive patent dispute after Samsung filed for the court to hear everything back in December. It’s not really a cheerful ending, but we can still hold out hope for that first thing.
After paying over half a billion to Apple, Samsung wants the Supreme Court to hear the case, specifically how it relates to Apple’s design patents. Google and Facebook have publicly sided with Samsung here to try and get a reasonable decision made about the validity of those design patents, but Apple says the trial has gone on long enough and there’s no reason to keep escalating things. Samsung (and many other companies) worry that if the verdict is upheld, it could set an awful precedent going forward for other companies trying to create innovative products.
Both companies have a point, and there’s two ways to look at things. The case has dragged on for years, so it makes sense to go ahead and wrap things up. On the other hand, though, when your legal battle takes multiple years to resolve, what’s another few months on top of things, especially if it makes sure to set the correct precedent for the market?
No word on how this will end up, but we’ll keep you updated after a decision has been made.

Verizon is running a new Valentine’s Day promo, letting customers buy one Droid Turbo 2 or Maxx 2 and get a second half off.
A variety of companies have already began offering some sweet Valentine’s Day deals, including Google and OnePlus.
Verizon’s deal might be a little more special, though, considering that both the Turbo 2 and Maxx 2 are exclusive to Verizon and can’t be gotten anywhere else. Both of these smartphones will offer you insurmountable value, whether it be the Turbo 2’s unbreakable display or the Maxx 2 with its long-lasting battery. Not only that, but both smartphones feature some top-of-the-line specifications with fast charging technology.
Verizon ran a similar deal back in January.
Either device is a tough one to pass up. With Verizon’s 50% discount offer, your second device could be a Turbo 2 for just $319 or a Maxx 2 for a meager $192. Talk about value!
Verizon started running the promotion today both online and at participating stores, and will continue to run the promo through February 25. With that in mind, you’ve got a little under three weeks to make a decision.
One thing’s for sure: if you’re in the market for a new smartphone, what Verizon is offering is a hard to pass up. Anyone plan on buying?

Some iPhone 6 users who had their smartphones repaired by third-party technicians are reporting that a mysterious “error 53” message is permanently bricking their iPhones (via The Guardian). Users who have had Touch ID on their iPhone 6 fixed by a non-Apple technician, and agreed to update the iPhone to the most recent version of iOS, are facing an issue which essentially prevents all access to the iPhone.
Freelance photographer Antonio Olmos is one such affected iPhone 6 user who had his iPhone repaired in Macedonia while working. He said “it worked perfectly” after the repair shop finished fixing the broken screen and home button, but once he updated to iOS 9 he got an “error 53” message and could no longer access any of his personal content on the iPhone. An Apple Store in London was shown the issue, and staff there admitted there was nothing they could do for him besides sell him a new iPhone.

“The whole thing is extraordinary. How can a company deliberately make their own products useless with an upgrade and not warn their own customers about it? Outside of the big industrialized nations, Apple stores are few and far between, and damaged phones can only be brought back to life by small third-party repairers,” Olmos said. “I am not even sure these third-party outfits even know this is a potential problem.”
Speaking with The Guardian, iFixit‘s Kyle Wiens said that the issue, while still unclear, appears to be Apple ensuring only genuine components are being used for repairs. Once a third party changes the home button or internal cable, the iPhone checks to be sure that all original components are running the phone, and if there are any discrepancies users face the “error 53” message and can’t access their data. Since mentions of “error 53” span a few versions of iOS, it’s unclear specifically which software update began the phone-locking error message.
An Apple spokeswoman commented on the issue, referring to protective security features intended to prevent “malicious” third-party components from potentially compromising a user’s iPhone as the main reason for the “error 53” message.
“We protect fingerprint data using a secure enclave, which is uniquely paired to the touch ID sensor. When iPhone is serviced by an authorised Apple service provider or Apple retail store for changes that affect the touch ID sensor, the pairing is re-validated. This check ensures the device and the iOS features related to touch ID remain secure. Without this unique pairing, a malicious touch ID sensor could be substituted, thereby gaining access to the secure enclave. When iOS detects that the pairing fails, touch ID, including Apple Pay, is disabled so the device remains secure.”
She adds: “When an iPhone is serviced by an unauthorized repair provider, faulty screens or other invalid components that affect the touch ID sensor could cause the check to fail if the pairing cannot be validated. With a subsequent update or restore, additional security checks result in an ‘error 53’ being displayed … If a customer encounters an unrecoverable error 53, we recommend contacting Apple support.”
Other than that, Apple hasn’t commented on the issue or outlined exactly what the company can do for those affected by the iPhone bricking error message. Mentions of “error 53” have been around since at least last April, where some users have encountered the issue in software updates as early as iOS 8.3.

Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting anything as earth-shattering as quitting Facebook. Just quitting the official Facebook app. Among tech aficionados, the Facebook app is the one app you would never put on a new device because of how bloated and resource-hungry it is, but there are plenty of folks out there that do have it installed. However, a recent ground-swell of anti-Facebook sentiment is seeing more and more people try life without the official app, and liking what they see.

The main things Facebook is accused of doing is taking up too much space (the official app is 40 MB), consuming too much RAM, causing persistent wakelocks, background processes draining battery and generally being the root of all evil. There’s surprisingly little factual evidence around for all these claims, but there is certainly no shortage of anecdotal evidence that Facebook is the primary cause of a sluggish Android experience. For every one of these claims there’s usually another that states uninstalling the app leads to near-instantaneous performance improvements.
Whether you find your system performance to be so bad that something must be done, you simply want a faster and more streamlined Facebook experience or you just want to know the truth for yourself, there’s certainly no harm in uninstalling Facebook for a while.

The first thing you’re going to need to do is find yourself a Facebook app alternative. Assuming the main reasons you uninstalled Facebook was to kill its battery-draining, background process-using, resource-chewing habits, then you’re probably going to want something lighter, leaner and faster. Considering how bad the Facebook app is, that isn’t very hard to do. Fortunately, it’s not that hard to find an equivalent Facebook experience elsewhere.
Google Play is full of alternative Facebook apps, but in all honesty, most of them are not very good. I’ve tried pretty much all of them and generally return to the same three or four solutions, which I’ll list for you below. The good news about all of these is that none of them auto-play video ads in your stream either.

Using a Google Chrome “web view” shortcut is probably the lightest and fastest option around. Since September last year, when you sign into Facebook in Chrome, you’ll see a popup requesting permission to let Chrome send you Facebook notifications. Saying yes to this request means that you can now get Facebook push notifications via the browser, making the Facebook app redundant.
Simply open Facebook in Chrome on your device and log in. When the Chrome request appears at the bottom of the screen, tap Allow. Now, tap the Chrome overflow menu button and tap Add to Home screen. You’ll get an admittedly large Facebook icon added to your home screen that will take you straight to your web version of Facebook in Chrome and you’ll still get push notifications like normal.

Metal is one of the few Facebook alternative apps I’d recommend. The best thing is it works for both Facebook and Twitter, so you can kill two birds with one stone. Metal is a web wrapper app, meaning that it isn’t so much of an app itself as a skin for the web version of Facebook.
Like the Chrome solution above, Metal can also send you push notifications but it improves on the Chrome fix by adding a huge array of extras. Metal including various themes, a floating mini app-window for FB updates on the fly, a navigation drawer, Twitter support, fingerprint access, interface options (like full screen mode and fixed toolbar while scrolling), proxies, pinned pages for a custom shortcut menu, floating action button and forced mobile or desktop site view. It’s pretty brilliant.

[Price: Free]
If Metal sounds all a bit too complicated, the old dinosaur of Facebook alternative apps is Tinfoil for Facebook. Again, Tinfoil for Facebook is just a web wrapper app, but it’s super fast and has its own handy navigation drawer and shortcuts. It’s nowhere near as feature-packed as Metal, but it is even smaller and faster.
Tinfoil doesn’t sync in the background, use any more resources than the Chrome shortcut or cache data, so it’s very battery and system friendly. Tinfoil doesn’t include push notifications though, but you can simply use Chrome notifications to keep up to date or install IF by IFTTT and add the Facebook notifications recipe. You’ll just need to go to your Facebook notifications settings page on a computer and grab your RSS feed URL so you can plug it into the IF recipe.

If you like the main Facebook app but can’t put up with its battery-draining, performance killing nature anymore, you could also try Facebook lite. If you haven’t heard about it, Facebook Lite is an official Facebook app originally designed for markets where fast-flowing internet connections are not always available. But folks anywhere can use it as a faster, leaner alternative to Facebook that consumes less data and requires less system resources to run.
Facebook Lite offers a similar, if pared down, experience to the main Facebook app, but it is much, much smaller: just half a MB compared to 40 MB for the normal app. Facebook Lite also has native push notifications and chat, so there’s no need to keep Facebook’s Messenger app installed if you take this option. Unless you’re in a supported market you can’t search for Facebook Lite in Google Play, but you can get it via the Play Store link below.

It was 2011, and Samsung was taking over the world.
Once upon a time, when phones with 5-inch screens were huge, when dual-core processors were the bomb, the Galaxy S2 showed the world that Samsung was serious about this whole smartphone thing.
Released in February 2011, the Galaxy S2 was Samsung’s first real sales hit. It was one of the most iconic designs that Samsung ever put out, but the steady pace of tech evolution relegated it to the dustbin of the mobile industry.
Fortunately for the precious few users that still rock a Galaxy S2, the folks in the CyanogenMod community are not in the habit of giving up on capable phones, no matter how old and out of fashion they are.
CyanogenMod 13 nightlies are now available for download for the international Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100), bringing users the option to try out Marshmallow on their venerable device.
How is it the five-year-old Galaxy S2 able to run Marshmallow, you ask? It’s thanks to its 1GB of RAM and dual-core processor, but of course don’t expect the smooth experience you would get from a modern device. Nightlies, by their nature, can contain bugs and inconsistencies, so be advised that putting Marshmallow-based CM13 on your Galaxy S2 may result in some issues.
CyanogenMod 13 offers a slew of customizations options and feature additions, on top of a very stock-like user experience. The custom ROM is perfect for stock Android fans that are looking for a little more power and variety. Among the biggest features are a powerful custom launcher, a customizable lock screen, extensive themes support, and a slew of personalization options.
