Motorola seems to be keeping its 2015 line-up firmly under wraps with not so much as a credible rumour surrounding its devices in the past few months. We’re expecting an annual update to all its major devices, the Moto X, G, E and 360, and today it seems we’ve got our first real leak regarding any of them, the Motorola Moto G 2015. The leak details a number of pictures which shows the front and back of the device, which you can see below:

Motorola Moto G 2015As many Motorola fans will see, the 3rd generation Moto G appears to be quite a different device to its predecessors – the only real difference between the 1st and 2nd Moto G was the size. Where the Motorola logo used to adorn the back of the device, there is now a strip of plastic that looks like it should house LG-esque volume and power buttons, but nothing is there. Perhaps that indent does signify a power button, but it’s difficult to tell from just these photos.

Motorola Moto G 2015The front of the device, however, has the unmistakable Motorola tester’s logo (which probably isn’t a good thing to have visible) and a speaker grille on the bottom edge, presumably accompanied by one at the top. The Moto G, which apparently has a model number of XT1543, runs Android 5.1.1, which is expected. The list of specs is also a small bump over last year’s list, with a Snapdragon 410, 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera headlining the improvements. 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and a microSD slot round out the available specs in this leak.

If we’re honest, nothing about the specs is surprising, however we’re interested to see what the device ends up looking like when it is announced later this year. What do you think about the Motorola Moto G 2015? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Escape rooms are all the rage these days. Whether in physical form or video game format, they are great fun for people of all ages and backgrounds. The latest game in this genre, which adds the element of horror, is House of Grudge, made by Korean studio Gameday Inc. Adopting a similar game style to a point and click adventure game, House of Grudge will see you sifting through rooms to gather the right clues and objects to get you out of the room, all while an underlying story develops in the background.

Describing why House of Grudge is different to other escape genre games, Gameday chief producer Bongsaeng Kim says, “We added horror to the elements of escape genre, such as combine, dismantle, puzzle and trick, so we think players can meet with a new experience. And we all put a lot of hard work into the graphics and sounds for uprush of fear.” The jury’s still out on whether the scares will be genuine or not, but we’d love to find out. Unfortunately, House of Grudge is only out on iOS right now, but Gameday says an Android version is due out in future, and will likely cost $2.99 USD.

Samsung on track to sell 45 million Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge handsets this year

Samsung‘s primary aim with this year’s flagships was presumably to recover lost ground after releasing the Samsung Galaxy S5, and it looks like they’re going to manage it. Just. According to a report from Deutsche Bank, 45 million Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge handsets are going to be sold before year’s end, which puts the flagships on par with the Samsung Galaxy S4 which sold the same number two years ago. Luckily, the Galaxy S6 Edge commands a bit more of a profit margin, and while we probably won’t know what kind of profit margin Samsung was able to achieve with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, it’s suffice to say that Samsung is on top of their game again.

Despite this, Samsung might still fall short of its original expected targets, and it’s not like its other product lines are helping with the report citing “struggles” in Samsung’s mid and low end devices. Samsung probably isn’t completely out of the woods yet, but it’s definitely looking better than this time last year, and we’re sure the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (and Edge companion) is going to make some waves later this year in September.

Crime Coast wants you to build a gangster’s paradise and defend it

“We keep spending most our lives… livin’ in a gangsta’s paradise”

There are almost too many city-building, tower defense games to count so you have to stand out somehow to make it big. One of the latest to join the ranks of this burgeoning genre is Crime Coast by Pixel Squad which sets you up with a little town to grow and nuture as your own. It’s much the same story as city-building, tower defense games that have come before it – build up your defenses and army, run raids on other players and make alliances. Check out the launch trailer below:

From what we can see in the trailer, Crime Coast looks well made and has stamped its own unique art style on the game. Whether or not it’s actually good to play or not is another question, but early signs are good with most of the reviews in the 5 star region at the moment. We’ll keep an eye on this one to see if it can make a run at Clash of Clans, or War of Clans, or Clan of Clans, or whatever…

Like other games in its genre, Crime Coast is completely free to download and start playing, but there are in-app purchases to tempt you into being badder than bad. If you think you’re a budding criminal, hit the Play Store link below to download Crime Coast.

Google reveals new health tracking wearable for medical professionals

google_x_fitness_tracker_official

Google has announced a new wearable, intended to give doctors and researchers quick and accurate data on their patients. The new wearable can measure a patient’s skin temperature, heart rhythm, and pulse. It’s also able to track environmental data, such as noise and light exposure, Bloomberg says.

The wearable isn’t going to available to the public. In fact, it’ll primarily be a prescription-based device. “Our intended use is for this to become a medical device that’s prescribed to patients or used for clinical trials,” says Andy Conrad, head of the life and sciences team at Google.

Google’s new wearable isn’t ready for medical facilities just yet, though. The search giant plans on collaborating with officials in the medical field to test the accuracy of the data the device provides. The wearable hasn’t received approval in the United States or Europe yet, either. But, Google does plan to begin trials with the new device this summer, which means it could be ready to go as early as late 2015, pending government approval.

If found successful, the device could prove to change how doctors and researchers gather data in the medical field. Slapping a wearable on a patient’s wrist would be much easier than current methods. But, there is one big hurdle that has to be worked on before facilities can even begin to think of adopting this new technology: unreliable patients.

“Historically, doctors do everything — patients just need to turn up at the trial site,” said Dennis. “Now, we’re asking patients to take on meaningful responsibility in gathering information.” As Bloomberg points out, asking patients to keep the device charged hurts data severely because you just don’t know if a patient will comply or remember. Not to mention that they’d need to keep the device on their wrist as opposed to taking it off.

I look forward to the day when this sort of technology is widely adopted, though. It would make it a lot easier to catch things before they happen, such as heart attacks and maybe sometime in the future, even strokes. If a simple wearable could detect or warn you when there’s heart irregularities or a blood clot forming somewhere, many potential harmful situations could be averted before they even happen.

Would you wear a device like this?

Facebook can see you even when you can’t be seen

facebook logo

Facial recognition software is becoming the norm now, but Facebook is taking it a step farther. Normally you need to be in the photo with a clear view of your face for the software to pick up on you. Now, Facebook has created a new algorithm that can see you even when you are hidden.

The way it works is by picking up details other than the face to tell who it is. Just like we do everyday it can pick up details such as their body features, hair style, clothing, etc. I am sure all of you have taken a photo when out with friends only to realize later that you cut someone’s head off in the shot. Even without their face directly showing you can still tell exactly which friend that is based on other characteristics. That is exactly what Facebook plans to do with their new software.

Yann LeCun, head of artificial intelligence at Facebook said:

“There are a lot of cues we use. People have characteristic aspects, even if you look at them from the back. For example, you can recognize Mark Zuckerberg very easily, because he always wears a gray T-shirt.”

Facebook has already tested this with 40,000 photos taken from Flickr. Most of the photos showed only parts of people’s faces or photos where the subjects had their face fully turned away. The algorithm scored a 83% success rate. Very impressive results for brand new software.

Facebook released a new photo app called Facebook Moments just last week. Moments searches a phone’s photos and sorts them into different categories such as friend’s wedding, recent trips, outings with friends, etc. It then tags whoever it recognizes as a Facebook friend. We would imagine that this new facial recognition algorithm would fit in perfectly with it.

I am sure many of you are reading this feeling quite worried about your privacy. You can no longer hide your face to avoid being recognized. Tell us in the comments what your views are towards Facebook’s new software.

Did you miss your chance to pledge to the Pebble Time Kickstarter earlier this year? Well, the good news is that you can now preorder the Pebble Time for $199 USD, starting today. There’s free shipping within the US and you have the choice of a black, white or red version, all with silicon watch bands; there’s a steel version coming in the near future. If you were wondering, the original Pebble cost $149 at launch, the Time presumably costing a little more thanks to its colour display and other improvements.

In case you haven’t heard of Pebble Time, it’s the third generation Pebble smartwatch which this time incorporates a colour e-ink display instead of its predecessor’s black and white display and no noticeable decrease in battery life. Pebble has also developed a new user interface and user experience in the Pebble Timeline, which aims to streamline what screens you need when you need it – Pebble intends to roll this out to the older Pebbles as well sometime in the future. If you think it’s time to get a Pebble Time, be sure to hit the source link below to get to the Pebble website.

LG G4 now has the Guinness World Record for most consecutive selfies taken

lg_g4_selfie_chain

While other manufactures focus on more traditional marketing techniques that only last a short time, LG aims for ones that last forever. LG has just received the Guinness World Record for most consecutive selfies taken. LG got over 2,500 participants in Mexico City for this stunt. The record is for the “longest selfie relay chain” and took over two hours on June 13 in which a total of 746 selfies were taken.

It happened at the historical Chapultepec Castle, which is a National Museum of History. The previous record was with the Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 in the US where a total of 531 selfies were taken. To beat this record, the G4 would have to take a photo every 10 seconds during the two hour period.

LG also claims that the G4 was not only able to shatter the previous record, but the G4 did it without needing to be recharged or have it’s battery swapped. They said it still had tons of battery left for more selfies, but they “ran out of people”. A city with almost 9 million people and they couldn’t even find more to participate.

It will be interesting to see if Samsung tries to reclaim the title with their Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in the future. Who knows if the battery will last that long.

LG EARNS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR “WORLD’S LONGEST SELFIE RELAY CHAIN”

LG G4 Plays Key Role in Record for Most Number of Selfies Taken in One Place

SEOUL, June 22, 2015 — LG Electronics earned itself a spot in the record books for the most consecutive selfies taken in one place with the help of over 2,500 participants in Mexico City. With a Guinness World Record official on hand, the “longest selfie relay chain” was set with an LG G4 near historic Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City over a period of two hours on June 13.

The total of 746 individual and group selfies surpassed the previous record of 531 consecutive selfies set in the United States just last month. Guinness World Record official Alex Angert supervised the record attempt and is in the process of validating the record back at Guinness headquarters.

“With one selfie taken approximately every 10 seconds, the LG G4 used for the record attempt managed to go the distance without needing a recharge or a battery swap,” said Daniel Aguilar, who coordinated the event for LG Electronics Mexico. “The G4 still had plenty of juice left but we ran out of people.”

Android M developer preview available on select Sony Xperia devices

Just under a month ago Google released the Android M developer preview for Nexus devices and for those who want to see what it brings to the table. While it isn’t quite everything it will be when it is officially launched, it brought some great changes to the OS. Now we have the same Android M preview being released by Sony for select Xperia devices. Sony has actually been pretty open about development and have offered an Open Device program for quite some time. When creating a software update/preview build, the manufacturer has to do some leg work when it comes to the chipset, binaries and other critical bits of code for their devices. That is exactly what Sony has done for those eager to check it out, but who don’t own a Nexus device.

For those interested, your first stop needs to be the Open Device program device list to see if your current Xperia device is capable of giving it a run. If it is listed, then you will want to snag the Android M preview build, the binaries for your device and follow Sony’s install guide. If you are sporting a carrier branded device I am fairly certain you are out of luck at the moment as the Open Device program only pertains to unlocked devices. Hit the source link for more information and all the links you will need to get the ball rolling.
