Europol pledges to take down ISIL’s social media accounts within two hours
Europol has announced that it’s setting up a taskforce just to deal with Islamic State’s social media accounts. In an interview with The Guardian, director Rob Wainwright pledged that officers would be trying to take down each account within two hours of being discovered. ISIL is believed to control upwards of 50,000 Twitter accounts, and uses that site, as well as Facebook and YouTube, to recruit new followers. In addition, the group uses social media to spread propaganda and issue death threats — such as the one against Twitter’s leadership, including co-founder Jack Dorsey.
The conflict between the various powers and ISIL is the first where social media has played such a prominent role. The USAF has previously revealed that a selfie, taken outside an ISIL base and posted online, had sufficient location information that intelligence specialists could locate the building and destroy it. Europol’s new unit will also be charged with tracking down the “ring leaders” behind the campaign, which is believed to have coaxed up to 5,000 Europeans to join the cause.

Younger generations don’t fear the robot revolution
With every new bot on the block, we’re inching closer to sharing our homes with machines. DARPA’s recent Robotics Challenge wasn’t about finding the best personal robot companion, but hinted at a future where they will run free (albeit very slowly) and rush to save lives when disaster strikes. But beyond the much-talked about hunt for first responder bots, DARPA had a lesser known contest that seemed just as pertinent as the main event. The agency set up Robots4Us, a contest for high school students, to reach out to the demographic that’s most likely going to share space with robots. Teens from across the country sent in short videos about their hopes and fears for the future of robots. In the end, five young winners made their way to Pomona, California, for the robotics challenge to present their version of the future. Instead of the dystopian narrative that usually accompanies robotics, each student envisioned a collaborative space for robots and humans to coexist. Turns out, the generation that will most likely hang out with a bot at home isn’t robophobic at all.

The new Acer Chromebase DC221HQ series could be the device that makes all-in-one desktops with Chrome OS popular. It has a large, sharp display and a processor that keeps the operating system moving along. The Acer Chromebase’s display measures 21.5 inches and has Full HD (1920×1080) resolution. Perhaps more valuable than image quality for the Acer Chromebase is the device’s versatility from the adjustable stand, which tilts from 15 to 75 degrees, and ability to mount it to a wall. The latter setup becomes useful when paired with the touch-ready model that costs $429 compared to the base model’s $329. Along with 4GB of RAM, NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 processor will likely perform well given its history with other Chrome OS devices.
Acer will begin selling its new Chromebase this month in white and black color options.

Speedy
The Acer Chromebase is available with a 10-point multi-touch screen for $429.99 or a non-touch screen for $329.99. Outfitted with an NVIDIA® Tegra® K1 quad-core processor and a 16GB(4) Solid State Drive, both Acer Chromebase configurations are fast, booting up in about 10 seconds and resuming nearly instantly from sleep mode. The models also come with a complimentary 100 gigabytes of Google Drive storage for two years, so users have plenty of space for storing documents, music, movies and photos.
The Chrome OS supports multiple users and accounts, so multiple users can maintain privacy while sharing the same account. In addition, photos, videos, music and documents are synchronized and backed up with the user’s Google account. These AIOs come with 4GB of DDR3 1600Mhz memory and NVIDIA Kepler™ graphics for clear imagery. Get excited, you might be able to try Google’s Project Jump
For those of you unaware Google’s Project Jump is a camera rig that features 16 GoPro cameras setup perfectly to film video for virtual reality. The way it works is you place the rig onto a tripod or camera poll and all the cameras film at once capturing a 360-degree of your surroundings. Once you get back to your computer, you can use their software to stitch all the clips together to create one seamless video that can be viewed using virtual reality glasses such as Google Cardboard or on YouTube.
Google aims to make virtual reality mainstream and the only way to do that is by making the videos and way to watch them cheaper and easier for the consumers. Currently Project Jump is not available to buy just yet, but for a lucky few you might be able to try it. Google has opened a Project Jump application where anyone can fill out the sheet with basic information and give a brief explanation as to why you would be the perfect person to test it out. Obviously the most important part of the form is the explanation of what you plan on filming with them. Google will give priority to “awesome” responses.

CHOETECH six port multi-USB charger review
If you’re at all like me then you’ve got no less than 2-3 devices to charge on a regular basis. In some cases I find myself having to juice up even more things as I head off for a day trip or weekend out and about.
I’ve been spending a couple of weeks playing the CHOETECH six port multi-USB charger here in the office. Short and sweet, this guy turns one wall outlet into six USB ports for charging up products. This is quite a handy unit to have around as I am able to put away a handful of power outlets and blocks and clean up the cords.
While it’s cool to simply plug in anything anywhere it actually gets better. The smart technology inside is able to identify the types of devices being charged and can adapt accordingly. Should your phone have Quick Charge charging it will boost the speed and get you off and running quicker.
Because of its size (about 3″ x 4″ x 1″) it can sit just about anywhere you want. I’ve tucked mine in the corner of the office desk and just plug in what I need, when I need it. I’ve already got some short microUSB cords hanging out, ready to plug in any Android phone and most tablets.
The power cord is 5 feet long so there’s plenty to run behind the desk or night stand. There should not be an issues of not having enough cord length, even with short microSUB cords.
You can grab one of these from Amazon for less than $25 right now, a price of which I feel is definitely worth it. If you ever travel and find yourself short of outlets, or just need more options for your typical charging place(s), then you should certainly consider one of these.

Sony releases Android M AOSP Developer Preview images
Sony has just released the Android M AOSP Developer Preview images for many of its Xperia smartphones and tablets. Originally, the Developer Preview was exclusively available on the Nexus 5, 6, and 9.
Keep in mind that the Android M AOSP Developer Preview are AOSP images, so you won’t be getting exactly a pure stock Android experience, as many of the Google apps and services will be missing. If you absolutely want them, there’s always the option of retrieving them after flashing Android M. Either way, you still get all of the excellent flavours Android M is bringing to smartphones and tablets.

Another thing to watch out for is that this Developer Preview is by no means ready to be a daily driver. Sony warns that “the modem and the camera are not implemented.” Either way, if you’re ready to take Android M for a spin on something other than the Nexus lineup, hit the source link below.
Hopefully we’ll begin to see other manufactures offer something like this, although I’m not too hopeful. Then again, LG might, considering that they’ve recently started supporting developers via its bootloader program.

Motorola begins Android 5.1.1 deployment of Moto X (1st Gen)
Motorola began soak testing the Moto X (1st Gen) Android 5.1.1 in multiple markets last week. On Friday, it began full deployment for unlocked models of the 1st gen in the US, Brazil, and on Canadian carrier Rogers.
David Schuster, a Senior Director at Motorola, took to Google Plus on Friday to announce the deployment:
“I am pleased to announce that we have started full deployment of the 5.1 Android Lollipop upgrade for Moto X (1st Gen) for US Retail, Brazil Retail and Rogers in Canada.“
Moto X (1st Gen) users have been waiting for the update for some time now, raising concerns that Motorola wasn’t living up to its promise of quick updates. And that still might be a concern, considering that the update hasn’t made its way to users who bought the device on-contract.
Hopefully now that full deployment has begun it shouldn’t be too long before it begins hitting carriers. In the meantime, if you own an unlocked Moto X (1st Gen) you should be able to manually check for the update in Settings > About Phone.
