T-Mobile multi-line promotions coming to an end soon

t-mobile_logo_magenta

Sources are reporting that T-Mobile is getting ready to end two popular promotions for users looking for multi-line accounts. The 4 for $100 and the 2 for $100 plans are slated to end on June 27th, except for customers in Puerto Rico, according to these sources. Although the promotions may be ending for new customers to sign up, T-Mobile subscribers who are on the plans will continue to enjoy the benefits and can add lines if they have space available.

The 4 for $100 plan provides 10GB of data to be shared between four lines, or 2.5GB per line average. The 2 for $100 plan provides unlimited 4G data for up to two lines of service. Both plans have proven to be very popular, so it will be interesting to see what T-Mobile introduces to replace them. Some sources have hinted that T-Mobile may be rolling out a new phase of their Uncarrier strategy before the end of the month. This move to bring these promotions to a close could be tied to whatever the next Uncarrier step is for T-Mobile.

If you have been considering making the move to T-Mobile to take advantage of one of these plans, it looks like you need to go ahead and make a decision sometime in the next couple weeks.

Need a short, mindless, destructive game to take up part of your weekend? Guncat, made by Shortbreak Studios, might be the option you’ve been looking for. In Guncat, you assume the role of a cat trying to take a nap who has been awoken by a (infinite) stream of birds – of course, this means that this grumpy cat (i.e. you) is going to attempt shooting all the birds down. It’s a simple mechanic which only requires you to tap the screen to shoot, but challenges you to string together long combos for the greatest point score. Check out the launch trailer for Guncat below:

The game boasts multiple gun and enemy types to unlock and appears to have social media sign in to let you compare scores with friends also playing the game. The game also runs on the Unreal Engine 4, which makes easy work of the cartoon graphics which do actually look pretty impressive. If Guncat looks like it’s your cup of tea, hit the Play Store link below to download and play the game for absolutely free:

Top-down air shooter, Korean-style: Elemental Wings by Joycity brings back a familiar format

I got into video games relatively late and I managed to miss the whole top-down, scrolling, air shooter craze. Thankfully, the genre is popping up its head here and there these days and Elemental Wings by Joycity is the latest entry in this frantic, colourful genre. No doubt influenced by its Korean roots, Elemental Wings utilizes an anime-esque art style (yes, I’m aware anime is Japanese, but the style is similar) and features this theme throughout the game, not only in its gameplay but in the card system that has been implemented to help you track your upgrades. Check out the launch trailer below:

I love the art style of the game, and if that’s you’re cup of tea, then we’ve provided a Play Store link below for your convenience. Note that the game is available for free to download, but there are in-app purchases lurking around, presumably to make your gaming experience a little easier, should you so choose.

Samsung holding back RAW and RAM fixes until Galaxy S6 edge Plus released?

Samsung_Galaxy_S6_Edge_Front_Top_Samsung_Logo_TA

As the first of the Android 5.1 updates for Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge devices start to roll out on T-Mobile with other carriers likely to follow before too long, rumors have surfaced that a couple expected updates may have been withheld from the update. The two issues that have been identified include support for RAW images in the camera app and a fix for some RAM issues that have been plaguing some users. Perhaps even more frustrating for users hoping for these items to be addressed in the update is the reason Samsung may be holding back on them – to include them in the Galaxy S6 edge Plus device before rolling them out to existing devices.

If these rumors prove to be accurate, it seems like Samsung is walking a thin line with regard to existing customers. Holding back on new features to help encourage sales of a new device at the expense of existing hardware is nothing new in the industry. However, addressing a RAM problem seems like something Samsung would not want to withhold as it is not a customer facing issue and could impact the overall ownership experience. RAW support is quickly becoming a standard feature as it becomes more common and even competitors like LG on the LG G4 has already implemented this, so that too would not seem to be a big enough feature to help push a pending device.

If anyone out there has a Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge on T-Mobile and receives the Android 5.1 update, be sure to let us know whether RAW support is present.

Bethesda Announces ‘Fallout Shelter’ for iOS [iOS Blog]

Kicking off the week of conferences making up the Electronic Entertainment Expo, Bethesda yesterday announced a brand new game set in the Fallout universe specifically tailored for iOS devices, called Fallout Shelter [Direct Link].

Revealed alongside long-awaited games like Fallout 4 and Dishonored 2, Fallout Shelter lets players make and run their own “Vault” dwelling, locations in the Fallout world that shelters the remnants of humanity following a nuclear fallout. The game, which is free-to-play, notably won’t require an Internet connection for users to play and interact with the game.

Fallout Shelter
Once players build their own personal vault, they’ll be tasked with getting to know each of the characters dwelling inside of the shelter — assigning jobs, outfitting them with gear and weapons and training them for the harsh outside landscape. Eventually, players will have to contend with threats attempting to enter their Vault, and with power struggles emerging from within.

Fallout Shelter puts you in control of a state-of-the-art underground Vault from Vault-Tec. Build the perfect Vault, keep your Dwellers happy, and protect them from the dangers of the Wasteland.

BUILD THE PERFECT VAULT
Create a brighter future…underground! Select from a variety of modern-day rooms to turn an excavation beneath 2,000 feet of bedrock into the very picture of Vault Life.

OVERSEE A THRIVING COMMUNITY
Get to know your Dwellers and lead them to happiness. Find their ideal jobs and watch them flourish. Provide them with outfits, weapons, and training to improve their abilities.

PROSPER
A well-run Vault requires a variety of Dwellers with a mix of skills. Build a Radio Room to attract new Dwellers. Or, take an active role in their personal lives; play matchmaker and watch the sparks fly!

EXPLORE THE WASTELAND
Send Dwellers above ground to explore the blasted surface left behind and seek adventure, handy survival loot, or unspeakable death. Find new armor and weapons, gain experience, and earn Caps. But don’t let them die!

PROTECT YOUR VAULT
From time to time, idyllic Vault life may be disrupted by the dangers of post-nuclear life. Prepare your Dwellers to protect against threats from the outside…and within.

Fallout Shelter is available to download from the App Store for free [Direct Link].

Apple Confirms 71.5% Revenue Sharing for Apple Music, No Royalties During Trial Period

Apple Music iOS 9 IconApple vice president of iTunes content Robert Kondrk has confirmed to Re/code that the Cupertino-based company will share 71.5% of Apple Music revenue with music owners in the United States.

That number will be slightly higher outside of the United States, averaging around 73%, but Apple will pay no royalties during the three-month free trial period in return for slightly higher revenue sharing.

“Apple won’t pay music owners anything for the songs that are streamed during Apple Music’s three-month trial period, a bone of contention with music labels during negotiations for the new service. But Kondrk says Apple’s payouts are a few percentage points higher than the industry standard, in part to account for the lengthy trial period; most paid subscription services offer a free one-month trial.”

The payments will be primarily sent to record labels and publishers that own the rights to songs and their underlying compositions, meaning that the royalties will not necessarily line the pockets of musicians directly. Artists often have their own individual deals with the record label they are signed to, so their payouts are often dependant on the terms of their contracts.

Apple paying seven-tenths of every dollar to rights holders is the standard rate paid by other streaming music service such as market leader Spotify, although Apple Music may be more lucrative for record labels due to its absence of a free ad-supported tier. Spotify argues that Apple also offers free streaming music through iTunes Radio and its upcoming Beats 1 global radio station.

Apple Music was unveiled last week as an all-in-one streaming music service, live global radio station and social platform for artists to connect with fans. The subscription-based service will be available June 30 for $9.99 per month after a three-month free trial period for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and PC. Apple TV and Android versions of the service will be available in the fall.

Google kills Chrome’s unpopular new bookmark manager

Google has decided to expunge it’s new Chrome bookmark manager in favor of the previous version, likely because users kind of hated it. With search, images and other fancy additions, it probably seemed like a good idea at the time. But the changes weren’t very useful, and made bookmarking cluttered and slow on a browser most people go to for speed. If you still want it, Google said you can download it as an extension from the Chrome Web Store. The rest of us can pretend the whole thing never happened, though the product team did say it’ll still “continue to explore other ways to improve the bookmark experience.”

Waze to add voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger

Navigation app Waze is bringing the voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger, with his macho Austrian accent, to their Android app. You will find yourself accepting directions from the Terminator himself in Google’s community driven voice-navigation app Waze.

Waze’s official twitter account posted a teaser pic yesterday suggesting that they are adding their biggest celeb voice. Judging by the State of California Governor’s ring on the finger, it leaves no doubt that it is indeed, Arnold Schwarzenegger. You can even see his name written over it.

This move comes as a promotion for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s upcoming movie Terminator: Genisys due for a release on July 1.

The new update will bring Arnold’s signature catchphrases like ‘Hasta la Vista Baby’ and automated prompts in his voice to Waze’s navigation system much to the delight of the users.

The Terminator star recorded all the pre-defined prompts and catchphrases in an hour. Waze is set to push out a formal update with this addition by tomorrow.
