Apple’s ‘Move to iOS’ app seeks to peel people away from Android
The battle to switch users from competing platforms will intensity with the arrival of Apple’s Move to iOS app. The app, as the name suggets, will transfer just about everything in some form from an Android device to an iOS device. This includes contacts, messages, photographs and videos, songs, and books. Really, Apple will handle it all for you. Paid apps, however, will have to be purchased once again and Apple will pin them to a user’s iTunes Wish List.
Here is how Apple describes the Move to iOS app:
Just download the Move to iOS app to wirelessly switch from your Android device to your new iOS device. It securely transfers your contacts, message history, camera photos and videos, web bookmarks, mail accounts, calendars, wallpaper, and DRM-free songs and books. And it will help you rebuild your app library, too. Any free apps you used — like Facebook and Twitter — are suggested for download from the App Store. And your paid apps are added to your iTunes Wish List.

An update is upon you LG G Flex 2 owners. At least initially for those of you that are sporting the device on Sprint’s Now Network. The update will move your bendable self-healing device to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and carry with it software version number LS996ZV6. Sprint is pretty lacks when it comes to detailing exactly what the update includes. Most of what you will find is under the hood fixes. Sprint only points out Android 5.1 and Factory Reset Protection. Rest Protection, also known as Device Protection when Google announced it, keeps the device locked to the Google account even after a factory data reset if enabled.
Android 5.1 is supposed to bring HD voice along for the ride as well as Bluetooth management from the notification panel. I am certain there is a lot more to it too.
Those of you that have the device in your hands now should head into Settings > System Updates > Update LG Software > Check for Updates. As with any update you will want to make sure you are on a solid Wi-Fi connection, have well over 50% battery life remaining and some time to kill for the update to download and install. Not everyone will see the update today, so don’t go rage quitting on your device if it isn’t popping up immediately, but be on the look out. Happy updating everyone.

Syrian government supporters hack the US Army’s website
The Syrian government’s digital supporters aren’t letting up on their attacks against the US. Officials have confirmed that hackers linking themselves to the Syrian Electronic Army both defaced the US Army’s website and steered visitors to a page championing the regime. The military rejects the intruders’ claims that they compromised internal databases, noting that there’s no classified or personal data at risk. Still, the Army isn’t taking any chances — it temporarily took down its website to make sure things didn’t get any worse. However light the damage might be, it’s safe to say that the feds’ cyberdefense efforts just took another bad blow.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Active heads to AT&T with extra battery power
Samsung’s Galaxy S6 broke cover last month and today AT&T revealed its exclusive grip on the rugged device. The IP-68 rated dustproof and water and shock resistant handset packs a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display that touts a whopping 577 PPI to handle your swipes through Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop). Inside, a 64-bit Octa-core processor and 32GB of internal storage do the heaving lifting with 16-megapixel rear-facing and 5-megapixel front-facing cameras for photo duties. In addition to staying dry in depths of up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes, the S6 Active also packs in a beefy 3,500mAh battery. That’s significantly larger than the battery inside the regular Galaxy S6. And yes, when it does run down, you can juice up with wireless charging accessories or make use of the Fast Charging option to charge to 50 percent in around half an hour.
If you’re looking to nab one, you’ll be able to do so on June 12th in either Camo White, Camo Blue or Gray. Making the phone your daily driver will set you back $23.17/month with 30 device payments on Next 24, $28.96/month at 24 payments on Next 18, or $34.75/month at 20 payments on Next 12 — all without a down payment. For the regular two-year commitment, you can expect to hand over $200, or if you’re looking to skip the paperwork entirely, $695 is the off-contract price.

Spotify’s pricing not sitting still after Apple Music announcement
The biggest announcement to come out of Apple’s WWDC 2015 keynote was the debut of Apple Music, a new music streaming service with various elements that will be available on Android. The pricing, considering what Apple Music offers, is very good. A single person can use Apple Music for $9.99 per month while $14.99 per month supports up to six people. Spotify and some of the other services facing Apple, though, do not even compare when it comes to the family plan price.
Both Spotify and Rdio cost $14.99 for two people and reach $20 or more beyond that. Clearly, it makes no sense to go for anything but Apple Music when needing access for multiple people. Spotify does intend to alter its family plan and Jonathan Price, Spotify’s global head of communications and public policy, offered the following statement to The Verge:
“We already have similar family pricing in some markets and we expect to offer competitive pricing everywhere in the near future.”
Price’s statement does not explicitly state that Spotify will lower its family plan pricing, but it seems inevitable.

New Samsung patent be further proof of Project Valley, a rumored foldable device

A couple of weeks ago, we covered a story on Samsung’s rumored Project Valley, a purported foldable device rumored to be in development behind closed doors. As the rumor went, the project was not a sure-fire candidate for release, and may be scrapped at any time. Today, we have a new patent filing with the USPTO and the schematic looks surprisingly like what one might expect from such a device, apparently a Galaxy Note variant given other pictures’ inclusion of a stylus.
The device described in the patent has two screens and a body that folds in half, and comes across as a design not unlike that which Toshiba used for its final/most-recent Libretto, NEC used for its Medius W, and Sony experimented with for the Tablet P.
It’s important to note that a patent filing doesn’t mean anything more than a desire to protect an idea or design that has been created. There is no guarantee this will end up in stores, of even behind the scenes. At the same time, given the rumor from last week, it would certainly seem possible that Samsung is working on a foldable tablet of sorts, at least behind the scenes, and this design more or less represents that.
Would you be interested in the prospects of such a device? Does it actually add anything unique that hasn’t been done before?

Homebuilt laser shotgun is every bit as dangerous as it sounds
If you thought building your own laser weapon at home was hot stuff, you haven’t seen anything yet. Do-it-yourself fan Styropyro has built a laser “shotgun” whose eight 5W beams are adjustable with lenses, much like you’d adjust the choke on a conventional shotgun to narrow or widen its buckshot spread. As you might gather, 40W of combined laser power is pretty powerful — and unbelievably dangerous. The gun can destroy everything from balloons to ping pong balls, and there are reflected beams that could easily smack someone’s eye. Don’t try this at home, folks. It’s still an impressive feat of homebrew engineering, though, and Styropyro is hoping to make something “even crazier” before long.

iOS 9 Tidbits: Battery Saving Features, Search for Settings, Keyboard Changes, Email Attachments, and More
Apple covered the major new features of iOS 9 during today’s keynote event, introducing a more intelligent and proactive Siri, split-screen multitasking for the iPad, major performance enhancements, Transit directions in Maps, a new News app, and more, but there are hundreds of other minor improvements that went unmentioned.
We’ve gathered up a list of some of the more notable changes and hidden new features in iOS 9 that have not yet been mentioned, to give you a better idea of what we can expect to see when the new operating system is released in the fall.
iCloud Drive – It wasn’t mentioned during the keynote, but there’s a new optional iCloud Drive app on iOS that can be turned on in the Settings menu. The app lets you access files stored in iCloud Drive.

Keyboard changes – The shift function has been altered once again, making it easier to determine when it’s activated and when caps lock is turned on. With shift pressed, all letters on the keyboard are now shown in upper case. With shift off, letters on the keyboard are lower case. On iPad, there are new edit controls, and the keyboard now uses the new San Francisco font.
Shift on at top, shift off at bottom
Find My Friends/iPhone – Find My Friends and Find My iPhone are both default apps with iOS 9 and come installed automatically. Before these needed to be downloaded from the App Store. Find My Friends can be added to the Notification Center, where it tracks the location of your friends.

Battery saving – Using ambient light and proximity sensors, your iPhone now knows when it’s facedown on a table and will not turn the screen on, even when a Notification is received. Other enhancements add an additional 1 hour of battery life to the iPhone with iOS 9, and there’s a new Low Power Mode that increases battery life another three hours.

Battery settings – To go along with all the new battery features, there’s a new dedicated “Battery” section in the settings app, where Low Power Mode can be turned on. It also displays battery usage information. With Low Power Mode, background activity, motion effects, and animated wallpapers are disabled. Battery information is also displayed in the Notification Center, for both Apple Watch and iOS device.
