Samsung Galaxy A7 reportedly heading to South Korea on January 14
Samsung is preparing to officially unveil the Galaxy A7 in South Korea next month, according to reports out of the region. It’s believed that the tech giant will announce the new smartphone on January 14th, alongside the Galaxy A5. Samsung has already launched the Galaxy A5 in China, along with the entry-level Galaxy A3.
HTC teases a Desire smartphone for CES 2015

CES 2015 is shaping up to be an interesting event, with ASUS, LG, and Sony all teasing devices for a January unveiling. HTC is now also confirmed to be making an appearance at the show, where it will be launching the latest smartphone in its Desire range, according to a teaser poster listed on the company’s Weibo account.

HTC will be holding its launch event between 5:00pm and 7:00pm on the 5th of January (local US time), but the poster gives little else away. It is unclear if the new Desire smartphone will feature specifications rumored for HTC’s anticipated Hima flagship. @Upleaks speculates that the handset, nicknamed the HTC A52, will be marketed as a “selfie phone” and will come with a 13 megapixel front facing camera in a 16GB model and a 4 Ultrapixel front camera will be available with a 32GB of memory variant. This matches the camera specifications recently rumored regarding the Hima.
A dual SIM option is also rumored for selected regions, but availability could be strictly limited to the Asian market, as the Chinese teaser poster heavily implies. Then again, HTC may have something different planned altogether.
Be sure to tune in on the 5th, or early in the morning on the 6th in Europe, when we will be covering HTC’s CES announcement.

SyFy’s ’12 Monkeys’ will sync with your Philips Hue bulbs
Sure, Philips’ color-changing Hue light bulbs can give you calendar or weather reminders, but if you buy them for practical reasons, you’re doing it wrong. To bust out their fun side, SyFy has just announced that its 12 Monkeys series, based on the cult Terry Gilliam film, will sync in time with the home WiFi lighting. The cable channel first did the Hue trick with Sharknado, an experience we found to be hit-and-miss. You’ll need to install SyFy’s iOS or Android app, then set it up to work with your Hue Bridge and bulbs. From there, it’ll provide special effects that “enhance” the show in a way you’ll either find cool or cheesy, depending on your state of mind.

Chinese manufacturer ZTE unveils new company logo
ZTE has just unveiled a new logo in its bid to forge a new corporate identity and make further inroads in the M-ICT (Media Information Communications Technology) sector. The announcement comes just as we wait to welcome 2015, so the company couldn’t have picked a better time for something like this.
The company mentions in its press release that it will solely focus on products that are “dynamic, youthful and compelling to users, sustainable and environmentally responsible, as well as open-minded and collaborative.” This should mean a change in branding across the board effective immediately. The company will host a news conference on Monday in Las Vegas just as the CES 2015 event kicks off, so more details will be shared during the course of the event.
“ZTE is evolving our operations in line with our broader M-ICT vision, which will help us deliver higher value to customers and drive the growth of our business,” said Shi Lirong, President and Chief Executive Officer of ZTE Corporation. “Our new M-ICT strategy will open up a total addressable market of USD 3.5 trillion for ZTE, far bigger than the USD 350 billion telecommunications market.”

The 5.15mm thick Gionee Elife S5.1 finds new life as the Kazam Tornado 348
For the briefest of periods, the Gionee Elife S5.1 was the thinnest smartphone in the world. Measuring a ridiculous 5.15mm thick, it has since been surpassed by the Vivo X5 Max (4.7mm) and the Oppo R5 (4.8mm), but that’s not going to stop its re-branded brethren, the Kazam Tornado 348, from claiming the title of […]

The LG G4 could have a stylus of its own to compete with the Note 4’s S Pen
Earlier this month, a trademark submitted by LG was spotted aiming to reserve the rights to the name, “G Pen“. Obviously referring to a stylus, this gave birth to discussions regarding whether LG was starting development of a device with a stylus that would eventually see it go to battle with Samsung‘s phablets. As it turns out, rumours are […]
