Chrome now lets you see some websites when you’re offline
Ever been knocked offline right before you get to read a story on the web? If Google has its way, you won’t be left high and dry in these situations for much longer. The company has posted a test release of its Chrome browser that include a “show saved copy” button on the connection error page. Click that and you should see the last cached version of whichever site you were trying to reach. There’s no guarantee that this offline support will reach polished versions of Chrome, but it would be surprising if that didn’t happen — the feature would be handy for both offline directions and reading material on long flights. If you can’t wait for a complete release, you can visit the source link to grab the Canary build and try the button yourself.

Apple Continues to Dominate Enterprise Market Despite Android Gains
Apple’s mobile operating system continues to dominate the enterprise sector, according to new numbers in Good Technology’s latest Mobility Index Report [PDF], but Android has made enterprise market share gains at Apple’s expense. Android’s rising share of the enterprise market shows the wisdom behind Apple’s recent IBM deal, which will see the two companies partnering up for custom enterprise apps.
iOS activations represented 67 percent of total global device activations, but Apple’s numbers were down five percent quarter over quarter. At the same time, Android saw a five percent gain, with Android devices representing 32 percent of total device activations. Windows activations were at just 1 percent, while Blackberry activations were unable to be measured by Good due to their usage of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Broken down, iPhone activations were at 51 percent of total activations, while iPad activations represented 16 percent of total activations (and 90 percent of total tablet activations), a slight decrease from the previous quarter. Android smartphones represented 30 percent of total activations, with Android tablets comprising just a few percent of total activations.
As for apps, iOS enterprise app activations were responsible for 88 percent of total app activations during the quarter, while Android app activations were at 12 percent of total enterprise app activations, a shift of four percentage points from iOS to Android.
Though Apple’s enterprise numbers have seen a slight drop in the current quarter, its share of the enterprise market is poised to grow substantially over the coming months thanks to its recent partnership with IBM.
In addition to selling iOS devices to its corporate customers, IBM has plans to create more than 100 industry-specific native apps built from the ground up for the iPad and the iPhone, which will undoubtedly draw more enterprise customers looking for customized experiences. According to Good’s survey, custom app activations have been on the rise, seeing a 25 percent growth quarter over quarter.
Following the announcement of Apple’s partnership with IBM, CEO Tim Cook said he sees the deal as an opportunity for “transforming enterprise” and opening up a “large market opportunity” for both companies.
IBM’s first apps tailored to various industries like retail, healthcare, banking, travel, and transportation are expected to be released this fall, with additional apps following in 2015. In recent weeks, Apple has also been heavily pushing productivity apps on the iPad to poise the tablet as more than just a content consumption device, sending out emails promoting iWork and Microsoft Office and cutting the prices on many productivity apps.

Apple Honors Robin Williams With iTunes Store Section Featuring More than 40 Movies, Comedy Routines
Following the tragic news of the death of Oscar-winning actor Robin Williams, Apple has created a “Remembering Robin Williams” dedicated section of the iTunes Store housing many of the actor’s popular movies and stand up comedy routines.
Along with offering movies organized into categories like “Essentials,” “Comedy,” and “Drama,” the Robin Williams iTunes Store section includes a photo of the actor along with a short paragraph on his decades-long career and his involvement in Comic Relief USA, a charity that’s raised upwards of $50 million for homeless assistance.
One of the most beloved and unforgettable performers in the history of show business, Robin Williams brought laughter and inspiration to millions. Throughout a career that spanned five decades, Williams evolved from stand up comedian to international movie star. Among the great masters of improv, he transfixed audiences with a mile-a-minute comic energy. Williams’ Golden Globe-winning turn in Good Morning, Vietnam demonstrated that his versatile acting talents were equally suited to evoking dramatic complexity. Many of Williams’ most iconic performances–in Dead Poets Society, Mrs. Doubtfire, and his Oscar-winning triumph Good Will Hunting–were dazzling high-wire acts that left audiences in tears of laughter one minute and tears of poignancy the next.
In the iTunes Store section dedicated to Williams, Apple lists more than 40 of his movies like Dead Poets Society, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, The Birdcage, Patch Adams, Good Morning, Vietnam, and more, along with a handful of his comedy performances.
Robin Williams’ performance in Dead Poets Society is of special importance to Apple as his character, John Keating, delivered the famous “What will your verse be?” speech that inspired its “Your Verse” line of iPad advertisements. Williams also provided the voice over for one of the commercials, which began airing back in January.
Yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted about Williams’ death, calling him an “incomparable talent and a great human being.” Phil Schiller also expressed his regrets over the tragedy.

Madfinger Games branching out with upcoming MOZON, virtual model building
Many of you should know the game development company Madfinger Games. They have brought along some great titles like Shadowgun and the Dead Trigger duo. Dead Trigger 2 has probably been their most successful game to date and one that can continuously expand while raking in the bucks with IAPs and such. The company just pushed an update for DT2 about a month ago that brought all kinds of new stuff to the game. However, DT2 has been out for quite some time. It would seem that Madfinger is now shifting their gears from the first and third person shooter genre to something a bit more relaxing with a new app called MONZO.
As you can guess from the screen above, the app will be all about model building in a virtual world.
“MONZO has great potential to capture the interest of mobile gaming fans from all present genres and it will also be fun for gamers of all ages as well.” explains Marek Rabas, CEO of MADFINGER Games. “The construction of virtual models is very close to the experience of actual construction. The whole process takes gamers through the purchase and unpacking of kits to assembly, painting, exploring and sharing of finished models on Facebook and other social media” adds Rabas.
Once you painstakingly (without the cuts, glued up and painted fingers, and the drying time it would appear) complete your model it then can be overlayed through your camera so you can snap it sitting in your house, outside or what have you. Then off to the social spheres it goes.
MONZO will be a free app when it launches, but will have in-app purchases for you to buy various model kits that will listed out and categorized from simple to complex. I imagine the price tag will reflect the complexity as well. It would seem that Madfinger will have 8 kits available at launch, or at least that is how many their site says they have right now. Those would include the Black Widow bike, a COLT Model 1911, Paddle Boat, TREVITHICK Engine, Drilling Machine, Sports Car, Slingster Dragster and a Fire Truck.
In their gallery they also show off a Catapult Bow.
We aren’t certain of the launch date yet, but we do know they will be at GamesCom tomorrow showing it off at the Unity Booth (Hall 4.1, B030). If any of you guys will be around that area, swing in and check it out for us.

Update goes out for Box with Box Notes and new Languages
Box has released an update to their app for Android today that brings in a pretty useful new feature for those users on the go. The update brings in a recently released web feature, called Box Notes, that can now be utilized via your Android device. Box Notes is similar to Google Drives real-time multi-user collaboration offering.
Box Notes on Android features seamless integration into the native menus, allowing for all the basic editor features you’d expect: cut, copy, paste, bold, italic, underline, bullet list, numbered list, indent and outdent.
The update also lets users see a list of the 25 most recently accessed files, making it a bit easier to get back to a draft easier without searching for it again. You will also find some advanced settings for URL’s and fine-grained admin controls. In addition to the above mentioned, you can also now delete comments on files and there is a new “pull-to-refresh” gesture too.

Verizon set to offer LTE-only devices by 2016
In terms of global connection, GSM has always been pretty dominant. In the U.S. we have had both GSM (AT&T / T-Mobile) and CDMA (Sprint / Verizon). With LTE picking up steam across the U.S and the globe, it is only a matter of time before CDMA network services fall by the wayside. Verizon has been implementing their LTE network across the states and it is growing stronger by the day. Soon, CDMA will be all but a memory.
In an Investor Conference Verizon’s Fran Shammo let a small bit of information out. We should all expect to see the first set of LET-only devices hitting the carrier by the first half of 2016. That is just about 2 years after Verizon launched LTE voice service. This doesn’t mean that a switch will be flipped and if you don’t get a new device you are screwed. While the first set of LTE-only devices will be launching, the current network and devices will still play nice. We imagine it will take a couple of years to phase out the sales of CDMA devices and get everyone migrated to new technology.

Siri co-creator is working on a virtual assistant capable of anything
There’s no question that Apple’s virtual assistant comes in handy when you need information quickly. And now, one of Siri’s creators is working on a more advanced form of AI that goes far beyond the current iPhone option. Viv Labs says its personal assistant will possess a limitless tool set because the software can teach itself. This means that in addition to the regular ol’ search, the artificial intelligence will also be able to perform tasks like booking reservations based on openings in your schedule and more. “Siri is chapter one of a much longer, bigger story,” Dag Kittlaus, Viv’s co-founder who also worked on Apple’s assistant, tells Wired. Bypassing the need for coders (and constraints), Viv generates its own program to answer queries and complete tasks in seconds. Once the system is “trained” to understand the vocabulary of a subject, the company aims to sort through loads of data to not only lend a hand, but anticipate what we’ll need next.

Sony has sold over 10 million PlayStation 4 consoles
Sony just hit another big milestone in the console wars. The company has officially sold over 10 million PlayStation 4s since the gaming system launched back in November — and those are units in the hands of real players, not on store shelves. For those keeping track, this means that Sony has delivered about three million PS4s in the past three months. The enthusiasm for the device isn’t slowing down any time soon, then. It’s not clear how close Microsoft is to hitting that largely symbolic mark, although its recently launched Kinect-free Xbox One may help it close the gap.
