Motorola’s Moto X is coming to the UK on February 1st for £380

When Motorola returned from Google’s wilderness, it came back with a new approach to phone design and customization. The Moto X was the subject of plenty of envious glances from the other side of the pond, and while the Moto G is an excellent low-end smartphone, it couldn’t entirely scratch that itch, you know? That’s why it’s to our delight that the flagship is now coming to the UK, albeit without the choose-your-own-body options that are available in the Moto Maker, at least not at launch. According to CEO Dennis Woodside, the company will launch the service just as soon as it can work out how to deliver the units within the same four-day window as it does in the US. It’ll be priced for £380 unlocked, or for around £25 a month when it lands in stores on February 1st.

Video messaging app Wordeo turns plain text into audiovisual poetry

Wordeo video messaging app for iOS

Six-second Vine clips are all well and good, but the best ones involve significant amounts of creative energy and pre-planning. A new video messaging app called Wordeo, on the other hand, tries to simplify things by asking you to write a text message first, and then automatically providing short snippets of moving images (gathered from Getty Image’s huge media library) an an emotive background to each word you’ve written. As you’ll see in our hands-on video after the break, the whole process can be completed in under a minute, depending on how much time you spend messing with the font, background music or — more importantly — inserting self-made, two-second video clips to better express a particular word or sentiment.

Yes, Wordeo might sound a bit silly, or like a hotchpotch of other ideas (not least HTC’s highlight reels and Google’s Auto Awesome Movies, which creative musical slideshows from camera content). And yes, the app requires a reasonably fast internet connection at every stage, while also inevitably exposing your messages to a third-party’s servers. But we think the end results are quite satisfying, especially considering how little effort you need to put in. Currently, finished mini-movies can only be shared directly with other Wordeo users, or shared as links via Facebook and Twitter, but the app’s creators are hoping to get permission for the .mp4 videos to play directly in people’s social feeds, which might help to win more people over. In the meantime, you can try the iOS app for free from the App Store today, and an Android is promised to arrive at some point too.

[Review] Circlons Icon Pack

DSC_1553Circlons.. An interesting name for an interesting icon pack.

This is one of the better circular icon packs out there, right up there with Cyrcle. This icon pack features 1500+ icons, all in HD. They truly look beautiful on my Galaxy S4′s screen. The developer covers everything, and then some. He even gets some of the apps that no one else seems to, like AdSense, Analytics, and the new Carbon for Twitter.

The Circlons icon pack has one of the most unique and beautiful apps accompanying it that I’ve ever seen, bar none. The layout is superb, functionality is quite amazing, and even better, the size small. How, you ask? The app hosts all 32 HQ wallpapers in the cloud, and you download them on the fly as you view them! I wish more developers would take this route.

DSC_1552

Speaking of the 32 wallpapers, normally I don’t end up using the wallpapers that come with an icon pack, but Circlons were so good, I couldn’t pass it up! It’s been my wallpaper now for well over a week (and normally I change that every day or two). It matches the icons perfectly, and is just awesome looking. But, not only does it match the icons, but it matches the Zooper Pro widget that is designed for the icon pack.

DSC_1547

Zooper Pro widget, you say? Yes, there is a matching Zooper Pro widget made by the icon developer that he put out, and it’s phenomenal. It comes with:

– Digital Clock and Date in 7 Colors (12h)
– Dynamic Weather with Current Condition and Temperature
– Dynamic Weather with Temperature
– Dynamic Battery icon
– Dynamic Battery icon with Battery % text
– Google Search and Voice Search in 3 Colors

And here is what the developer has to say about the icon pack:

1500+ Icons

Circlons is a full theme / icon pack for various launchers. These icons are beautifully designed with 25 color backs and long shadows. The icon pack comes with 32 custom made wallpapers in both light and dark version to match these icons.

———————

Full Features:
• Dashboard application for easy launcher apply actions
• Cloud based 32 Wallpapers to match the icons. Some walls are around 1-2mb in size. On a slow connection it may take time to load.

• 25 Icon Backs and an Icon Mask for apps not included in the icon pack.

Motorola Driving Assist Allows Hands-Free SMS Reply

motoroladrivingassist-update

Motorola Driving Assist got a nifty little update for you folks rocking the new Moto phones today. When utilizing the Driving Assist before when getting a text message, your phone could only read out the message you received, but all you could do is nod to yourself when responding to that message. Now you are able to reply to that said text message with your beautiful singing voice you are using to belt out your favorite song playing on your car stereo.

If you are one of the lucky ones to be able to use this new feature, check the Play Store for the update if you haven’t received it already. Just remember, you can only download it it if you are using one of the new Moto DROID phones, or the Moto X. The rest of you have to frown to the fact that you can’t use this feature, but shop around. You might find something to your liking.

DirecTV drops The Weather Channel, accuses it of loading up on reality TV

Usually, when there’s a dispute over a pay-TV system carrying a channel, it hinges on sports or in-demand shows like Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and Mad Men. This time, it’s DirecTV sparring with …The Weather Channel? Believe it or not, as of midnight ET, the venerable forecast standby — and former good friend of the satellite broadcaster — has been switched out for another channel since the two couldn’t reach a new deal. As usual there’s a war of words over who is in the wrong, with The Weather Channel claiming DirecTV’s move puts lives in danger by replacing its experienced forecasters with a “cheap startup.” In response, DirecTV says that TWC has shifted nearly half of its programming to reality TV and that besides WeatherNation (now broadcasting on 362 in TWC’s place), it has weather news on local stations and emergency channels.

This fight is a surprising one, but we probably should’ve seen it coming once TWC launched an array of new shows and started randomly assigning names to winter storms. The only real question? With constantly updated weather info available from Google’s search and almost any phone’s home screen (TWC itself offers apps on platforms from Android to Apple TV), how long will it take before viewers notice the channel is gone?

T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z1s with its 20.7 MP Camera Now Available

T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z1sSony announced that the new Xperia Z1S would be coming to T-Mobile exclusively, but somewhere I missed the part where it would be up for order today. Checking out the T-Mobile site this evening for something totally unrelated I stumbled upon the next Xperia Z device to be on the T-Mobile network. It is only available online until its official launch in stores January 22nd. Price wise, you are looking at $528 full price or monthly payments of $22 with $0 down. Assuming you are approved of course.

What does the Xperia Z1S offer? A heck of a lot.

Sony Xperia Z1S Spec outline

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor at 2.2 GHz
  • 3000 mAh Battery (15 hours talk, 600 hours standby)
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 32GB ROM
  • Expandable to 64GB via micro SD card slot
  • 5-inch screen at 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • 1080 HD video recording
  • 20.7MP camera
  • 4G LTE
  • All on Android 4.3

While I would prefer Android 4.4 to be preinstalled, it shouldn’t be to far off. Add in that the device is waterproof like its predecessors and includes a MHL adapter in the box and you have a pretty killer device for just $22 a month.

Heck, I just looked up to see what my original Xperia Z is worth for trade in, $250 is pretty good. I wonder what I still owe on it?

With T-Mobiles recent announcement to pay you for your old device and buyout your contract, anyone thinking of switching for the Xperia Z1S? Maybe you are shooting for the LG G-Flex or possibly holding out for the Samsung Galaxy S5?

Head over to T-Mobile.com to check out the Xperia Z1S

Ingress update v1.43.0: New Hack Animation and Lock Screen Bypass

Ingress v1.43.0 apk fileNianticLabs@Google have pushed an update out for the ever popular Ingress game. The update moves it right along to V1.43.0. The Play Store notes that there are some bug fixes and a “Quick app restart feature from lock screen.”

The second addition is actually a pretty cool one. From Ops, go to device and scroll down until you see Show on Lockscreen area. From there tap on enable and it will restart your Ingress app. If the the feature is disabled then you will see your lock screen as usual. However, with it enabled when you wake your device during play it will skip right to Ingress. Saves valuable seconds while in the field.

Also, according to decodeingress.me, there is also a new hack animation as well. We would share it here, but seeing as how they have it unlisted we will just direct you to their site for a glympse.

As always we have the desired APK ready for your download pleasure over at Gappsearly. Go pick it up and let us know what you think.
