New Nexus devices will be announced mid October, Android L to be released on November 1st
We know that new Nexus devices and Android L are just around the corner, but we haven’t really had any indication yet when exactly they will be releasing – until today. Android Authority has gotten some tips that suggest that the Nexus 9 tablet, with the possibility of a Nexus smartphone, will be announced on either October 15th or 16th. That Nexus smartphone is likely to be the Motorola-manufactured device, allegedly called the Nexus 6 or Nexus X, that we’ve heard so much about, but its screen size appears to still be a matter of contention – either 5.2 or 6-inches.
Along with the news of these devices releasing, the tip also points towards a November 1st release date for the new build of Android, Android L. Initial estimates pegged a Halloween release, so that wasn’t a bad guess at all. Of course, Android L will feature on the devices announced in mid October, but whether this means the devices won’t be shipped until November 1st looks to be the main discussion point among the press.
What do you think about a mid October announcement for the Nexus devices and November 1st release of Android L? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Android M Already Talked About?! Android L Spotted on Build in Chromium! – ManDroid Daily
Happy Monday my Android friends. Okay, that statement doesn’t make sense. There is no such thing as a “happy” Monday, but the ManDroid Daily is here. Android M is already being talked about on the developer side, which makes sense given they are ahead of what is out there. Android L on the other hand was spotted on a Nexus 4 owned by a Googler who posted the build in Chromium. It’s almost here guys. Enjoy the Daily!

Already?!: Googlers are already dropping the Android M name even before Android L is released
I’m sure many of us in the Android community are waiting with bated breath for the day that Android L – whether it be called Lemon Meringue Pie, Lion, or Lollipop – is finally released into the wild after it was announced at Google I/O earlier this year. That still hasn’t stopped some people talking about the next version of Android, though, provisionally called Android M. This all seems a bit ridiculous given that Android L isn’t even out, but Google developers have been spotted referring to a future build of Android called “M”.
Now, we don’t really need Google developers to tell us that the next version is going to go by a name starting with the letter M – since the very beginning, Android builds have sequentially progressed through the alphabet and M would be a logical successor to L. However it is interesting to get a bit more of an idea how Google operates, developing things effectively in parallel – this way, releases get more than just one year of development. Android M isn’t expected for at least another year, or longer, though rumours are already suggesting that it’s going to be called “Milkshake”.
What do you think about Android M already having its named dropped? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Google employees are running Android L on the Nexus 4

When Google released a developer preview for Android L at its I/O event this summer, owners of Nexus devices were excited. However, this excitement was short lived for owners of the Nexus 4. Google only released the preview for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013). Many believed that this meant the Nexus 4 was not going to receive the next big Android update.
Recently, it appears that a few Google employees are testing a version of Android L on their Nexus 4′s. Some Google+ users have spotted two different users claiming to be running “L” on their Nexus 4′s on code.google.com. One even specifies he or she is running build number LRW52G. This has gotten Nexus 4 owners excited because it could mean that Google will update the N4 to the latest Android version. Unfortunately, just because there are employees running “L” on a Nexus 4 does not at all mean that it will receive the update; although, the Nexus 4 has hardware that could easily run Android L considering that it will be running on the lesser-powered Android One devices that recently launched. Only time will tell if Google will update it’s two year old Nexus, but these recent findings do give N4 owners more hope.

Hopes of Android L on the Nexus 4 gain traction after Googlers spotted with build on Chromium
It must be a nervous time being a Nexus 4 owner. After Google essentially left the Galaxy Nexus out in the rain when it released Android KitKat last year, it’s a possibility that Google might do the same with the Nexus 4 with Android L. While signs are pointing at a tentative “yes” for Android L on the Nexus 4, any new evidence is still a good thing. At the very least, it appears that Google employees themselves are testing Android L on the Nexus 4, spotted on the Chromium issue tracker as they discussed their issues with their current build, in this case LRW52G – the latest Android L build we have seen is LRW66E on the Nexus 5.
With this news, the previous release of partial preview code to AOSP, and the fact that Google is updating the super-budget-friendly Android One devices, one would hope that Google will continue to update the Nexus 4 especially after the hell that has been wrought on users after the Android 4.4.4 update. That said, the Galaxy Nexus was more than capable of running Android KitKat – even the Nexus One was – the final call is up to Google – these employees might just be doing viability tests. All we can do is cross our fingers and wait till Android L is officially released sometime in the next month or so.
What do you think the chances are of Android L on the Nexus 4 happening? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Android L to offer default encryption on data, working towards making a more secure Android

Android has always suffered from a big security problem: all Android devices offer data encryption, but most users don’t know how to turn it on, or even what it is. That’s why Google is turning on data encryption automatically with the new release of Android L. The automatic data encryption aims to help eliminate sensitive case issues by keeping law enforcement out of your devices.
The Washington Post received word from Google today that they’re shifting towards a more secure operating system, mostly after government involvement in the popular Edward Snowden case. Niki Christoff, a spokeswoman for Google, explains
For over three years Android has offered encryption, and keys are not stored off of the device, so they cannot be shared with law enforcement… As part of our next Android release, encryption will be enabled by default out of the box, so you won’t even have to think about turning it on.
If the data is encrypted, law enforcement will be less-inclined to go snooping, simple as that. The data, however, will still be available to the police by means of a search warrant or court order. That being said, this is a great step forward in privacy for Google and Android as a whole. Only time will tell if this will actually help keep people from snooping.
How do you feel about your data being encrypted automatically? Do you welcome the security changes to Android L or do you think the change may be a bit too drastic?

Android L for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 may be available as soon as November/December
When you think of timely software updates, Samsung isn’t typically one of the manufacturers who’s name comes up first. However, if today’s rumour is true, Samsung may be one of the first to make available Android L for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4. This rumour comes from SamMobile, who’s Samsung insiders are reporting that the Android L update will come to Samsung’s flagship devices in late November/early December. If true, this should be a much faster turnaround than we have seen from Samsung in the past, however its software has also been buggy at times, buggy enough to withdraw the update entirely – hopefully that won’t be the case this time. We’d love to see Samsung challenge Motorola for fastest manufacturer to update their devices, but we’ll take what we can get.
And while we were expecting Android L to be officially released around Halloween time, along with the new Nexus devices, this allegedly release window for Samsung software updates also gives us further confidence that the release is right around the corner. While this is going to be a very fast update for the Note 4, which hasn’t even started shipping yet, the Android L update will be a breath of fresh air for the Galaxy S5 which has been on the same build of Android since its launch in April.
What do you think of the November/December timeline for Android L for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4? Let us know your thoughts.

Samsung Galaxy S5, Note 4 could receive Android L as soon as November

Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the strongest Samsung smartphones to date – are expected to receive the Android L update by the end of November, or in early December. By the end of this year, Samsung Galaxy S5 and the upcoming Note 4 will be running on the latest and the most advanced version of Android ever.
Although, SAMMobile further says that nothing is set on stone right now, so don’t get your hopes high. However, we would love to see Samsung adapting to the new version as soon as possible. Also if Samsung updates their flagship smartphones as soon as Android L becomes available, it will help them to build an even stronger relationship with their customers.
Are you eagerly waiting for the Android L update? Let us know in the comment box below.

We can’t get enough of wallpaper apps

I’m someone who loves changing wallpapers. What I love even more than changing wallpapers, is searching, more like scouring, the interwebs looking for the next wallpaper to grace my various home screens. What’s great about Android, is that there are a plethora of various wallpaper applications that help me change my wallpapers on an almost daily basis. Plus, if there is integration with Muzei, it gets even better, since the wallpaper will just change automatically. Sure, there are those times where I’ll look at my home screen and be surprised, but Muzei almost makes it feel like a new experience all the time. Well today, we are taking a look at a couple of wallpaper applications that I’ve been using for awhile now.
Zyden
Zyden was created by a few folks, one that you may have heard of, OffCorner, and Triple Triangle Design. Zyden offers more than just a few different wallpapers, and was one of the first applications to take advantage of the gorgeous Android L design. The developers for Zyden, surely didn’t disappoint in trying to make Zyden one of the most beautiful overall applications available in the Play Store today.
As with most icon packs, and other wallpaper applications, Zyden is Cloud based, meaning that all of the wallpapers are stored in the cloud, and all it takes is a couple taps, and the wallpaper is applied to your device. The benefit of having a cloud based dashboard is to save storage on your various devices, and you only have your favorite wallpapers readily available.
Zyden also offers 29 different categories of wallpapers, so there is more than plenty to choose from. If you’re looking to use Zyden for your tablet? No worries. OffCorner, and Triple Triangle Design also optimized Zyden to be compatible with your tables so that you can get your favorite wallpapers no matter what device you are using.
There are two versions of Zyden available. The paid version, at $1.50, offers users integrated Behang Blink support, as well as the ability to use Zyden in unison with Muzei. In terms of if there are any differences in the wallpapers available between the paid and free versions, again there’s no need to worry, as all the selections are available regardless of what version you have.
OYM Alpha
OYM Alpha is next on our list today, and comes from Neffstarr and Jhey. OYM is THE place to go in regards to having the biggest choice in wallpapers for your devices. Neffstarr is constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY updating the servers for this application to include as many wallpapers as your mind can contemplate. The Play Store description lists OYM as having 4048 custom walls and still adding”, but I know for a fact there are WAY more than 4048 available.
If you follow Neffstarr, you can start to get an idea of what kind of wallpapers are being added to the list, and how quickly they will be available for your devices. OYM Alpha has 25 different categories to choose from, and as you are scrolling and discovering where OYM takes you, the dashboard has the ability to favorite wallpapers so you can choose them later.
OYM Alpha also offers tablet optimization, the ability to crop images, and there are no issues with worrying about whether any wallpaper you choose will fit your device, as it detects the resolution and sets it accordingly. If you’re looking for a TON of wallpapers, look no further than OYM Alpha.
OYM Alpha is available via the Play Store widget below for $1.50, and is a welcome site to see on any device.
wlpapR
Okay, I know there hasn’t been any type of MAJOR redesign to wlpapR since it was released by Jacek Malinowski, otherwise known as yackovsky. However, wlpapR was one of the first wallpaper dedicated applications that I purchased for my Android devices. With an accompanying website, wlpapR offers loads of various wallpapers that, like every other application mentioned today, are stored remotely, so that the wallpapers don’t take up unnecessary storage on your devices.
wlpapR offers 19 different categories to choose from, and with yackovsky being able to upload new ones at his discretion, there are countless wallpapers available with this application. In addition to OYM Alpha and Zyden, wlpapR also offers the ability to use as a Blink extension with Behang, as well as support for Muzei.
If you want to get an idea of what kind of wallpapers are offered by wlpapR, you can head on over to yackovsky’s dedicated website, here, and take a look. You may even find a wallpaper that you would love to use for your desktop, and be able to do so with ease.
wlpapR is available on the Play Store for $1.38, and is well worth the purchase, considering the type of dedication and hard work Jacek puts into everything he does.
This is just a few of the wallpaper applications that are becoming more and more available on the Play Store, and these are my top 3 favorite ones. What wallpaper applications do you use? Do you use any in unsion with Behang or Muzei? If so let us know in the comment section below.
Keep Customizing.

First look at Material Design for Google Play Store leaks online

During the summer Google released an update to the Play Store that featured a dramatic redesign and brought several elements of Material Design into the app. Some of these changes included large banner-style pictures spanning the top of individual app, music, and movie pages along with a new organization of app information. However, it was obvious that the design was not final as many pages had not been updated to include Material Design. The main pages for Apps, Music, Books, Games, and Movies still retained the same look from the previous version.
Now, thanks to an article from Android Police, we have a look at the next big redesign for the Play Store, and Material Design is front and center. Play Store 5.0 brings Google’s design elements to all its pages. The colorful banners at the top of different sections have been made taller and flatter with much more vibrant colors.
I must say, the preview of the Antenna Sampler page looks gorgeous to me! Plus, these visual changes are accompanied by the beautiful and fluid animations that are touted by Material Design and Android L. With this major Material redesign to the Play Store, it is obvious that Google is preparing its apps for the release of Android L; an announcement we are all waiting eagerly to hear.
